Do you think my wife would like M:TG?

Here's an odd question. My wife enjoys playing UNO with me. Sometimes she just becomes needy of my time, and in order to spend time with me (why she'd want to do that is beyond me; she loves me, I guess) she drags out the UNO cards and demands that I play with her.

Don't get me wrong, UNO is an ok game, but it's more fun with more than two people. But I was thinking that I could pick up a couple of decks of Magic cards and seeing what she thought about it. Basically, it doesn't have to be Magic, it could be just about any game.

So, two questions, without knowing my wife, do you think she'd go for Magic, or are there other fun games out there that my wife and I can play together before I get sick of UNO?

IMHO.

I've tried to teach Magic to a few folk who love games
in general, and they've all found it a bit complex and frustrating at first.
If you want to teach her Magic, I really recommend those
Starter sets they've been selling.

Pokemon's a really great game for beginners, too, and
I've had hours of fun playing Cheapass Games with folks
who usually play Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit.

Hope that helps. :)

Don't

Don't try magic. Or something similar. Rather try normal card games. (strip poker?) Or maybe very common tabletop games?

hehehe, my missus does the same mate with Scrabble, luckily she's a gamer too, but when at home to drag me off the PC and writing its scrabble for us

Don't do it fella, its a money pit! lol.. only joking, I actually like the Magic game and its system, but was eating far to much of my "gaming allowance" so had to give up on it sometime ago. My missus actually liked magic too, and its not really her kinda game

My wife is not at all into D&D. However, she is a competitive person that likes games and she has played more Magic with me than all of my friends combined. We also play the Star Wars game, but she prefers Magic.

We have Scrabble, too. I picked up the Deluxe addition with a swiveling board, and wooden tile trays. Pretty nice. We've played it a few times. She has to use the dictionary to help her along, though. My Scrabble claim to fame was placing the word "Horny". :)

Cheapass Games, of course. Are there any that you'd recommend? I think one of the local game stores sell some of those.

I've had fun with Before I Kill You, Mr. Bond and
Kill Dr. Lucky, and a few others whose names escape me...

I'll post some more names when I remember them or look
at the collection we've got in the house. :)

Look for a game called Lost Cities. It's a two player card game with a small board. Not as complex as Magic, but much more intricate than UNO. Also check out Funagain games:

www.funagain.com

You should be able to find reviews for virtually any game available, which should help you pick something you two will like.

Funagain is the best...

...and may I suggest 'Guillotine' and 'Carcassonne'? Very fun games that are as good with 2 people as they are with 3-4. And, they both cost less than $20.
