D&D General Do you track material components?

Simple question. Does your group bother to track the use of material components? Why or why not?

Only the ones that cost money or are consumed!

On the other hand, I definitely describe using material components. My dwarf wizard is an archaeologist, and uses artifacts found in various dungeons as his material components.

Not really unless they cost more than 1gp.

Even then they only have to pay the cost vs the exact component.

Lightly. Even ones that are more expensive are often easily obtained.

Only ones that need tracking are the expensive ones & there really aren't that many like chromatic orb where you might want to cast it regularly but have a 50gp component needed to cast(not consumed). Things like raise dead & such might have a "raise dead diamond" on someone's sheet but probably just amount to lighting a pile of gold on fire & skipping the shopping trip unless it can soehw be made fun for the entire party (ie the dead PC died late in the last session & has to work this week so filler adventure for a big diamond)

We do if it is either something that is bought or something that is hard to come by. If it is just some ash that was scooped up at the campfire, not so much.

Only expensive ones.
If you have spell component pouch, you have all mundane components.

Component pouch/focus can be a plot device if it is taken/stolen. Like being in jail or similar.
