Do you use a tablet? Which kind? With what game?

Just a couple of things.

For those using Macs, Pages is an absolutely stunning application that beats the pants off of Word and is only $10 from the App Store. Preview (free on OS X) also allows you to add notes and symbols and links to otherwise uneditable PDF's which is just awesome.

Also, rumour has it that there will be an iPad 2.1 (specifically NOT an iPad 3) called the iPad HD with a 2048 x 1536 resolution and aimed at the 'pro' market, to be released around September.

Thirdly; similar to the phone issue, I'm aware that I can plug my usb drive into my tv and display things to the whole gaming group quite easily while playing here at the house. Likewise, if a friend brings something on their drive, I can do the same with very limited hassle.

some of the android tablets come with usb drives.

Now for the iPad...not sure about the hook up

right now I know seagate has a portable drive that works with the Ipad via wifi it is called Goflex Satellite.

GoFlex Satellite™ Mobile Wireless Storage

Take your media library with you. Stream it to your iPad®.
Take more than 300 HD movies on-the-go1
Stream media over Wi-Fi to 3 iPads at the same time
Automatically sync media and documents from your PC or Mac® computer
Up to 5 hours battery life2

As for putting stuff on your tv, iOS 5 and AirPlay Mirroring mode allows you to display whatever is on your iPad 2 through Apple TV and on your larger TV display. This is all done wirelessly, with near instant feedback making it pretty seamless.

Yep, looking forward to this, never understood Apple's dislike of USB ports. Tablets are new tech and companies are starting to supply the demand for the equipment, like that it is wifi!

Access to a mix of tablets at work and elsewhere has let me try out a bunch of tablets with a load of file types. We've played repeatedly with an iPad2 and a Galaxy Tab 10.1" using html versions of RPG Treasure viewed offline through Safari or Firefox.

The tablet 'experience' is pretty unbeatable, as your browser tools are all there at the same time, everything moves around real fast and multitasking OSs flick seamlessly between PC sheets, the rules, (agreed) messaging, media sites . . .

Treasure is made for this, but 'live' online html services, i.e. D&D Insider, work very, very well and my offline Traveller and White Box SRDs in html are a dream to use.

PDFs, are, basically not the same experience. Taking a screenshot, calling up a dice roller, metagame messaging and much more all gets a bit bogged down with the rules in PDF - for now. The result is that all the browsery, web 'feel' goes out of the user experience. You still get a lightweight, bookmarked equivalent of a timber book, but the PDF route is much like getting an apple instead of a toffee apple.

Is there a way to plug a thumb drive into an iPad? That was one of the big drawbacks for me when I considered buying one. They may have come out with something to change that since I first looked. Also, am I required to use Apple programs?

As it stands, the current tablet I use is a yellow legal pad. The pros is that it's very very cheap; I bought a whole pack of them for around 4 dollars. The battery life is amazing.

I did find away to do it. But you need to jail break your IPad.
Once you jailbreak it find a app on Cydia called ifile. Then connect the jump drive or flash drive using the camera adapter( USB ). If you gat the not enough power use a USB hub connected to the adapter and plug the drive into that. I was able to connect 4 different flash drives this way. I also was able to down files from the drives and write to the drives.

Apple's education-focused media event on Thursday will supposedly include iBook support for EPUB 3 documents, as well as options for self-publishing. Envision a rulebook with built-in media support; videos to display combat maneuvers, audio to describe monster languages, etc.
