I once stole Wicht's (I believe) ideas for an evil circus, and have several other notes still unused in a small little document. Never used a full adventure, though.

And the judgements are very helpful, especially when they're about your own work :D

color me enthralled

I just got exposed to FeDM this week. I am enthralled with it in its entirety. As a DM I am touch and go with ideas. Reading this contest has given me a creative spark that has positively effected my adventures enough that I feel more confident. Reading over a list of 6 ingredients that I would have trouble interlacing and seeing not one, but two adventures written PLUS judgements is great. It gives me something to strive for with my hobby. Hopefully with a little practice in writing Ill be able to muster up the confidence to enter. KUDOS to FeDM!

Ditto.

I always skipped over it becaues I didn't know what it was all about. So I checked it out due to this poll. I know I couldn't ever come up with the stuff as swiftly as they do. But then, maybe it isn't all that far from improvisational performing. Which I'm still not that great at. In truth though it is something that you can develop with practice and observation of others who are good at it.

Just squeezing in the time to read all the entries, with all the other stuff I have on my plate to read each day, is going to be a challenge in itself. Sign me up for the Iron Internet Surfer contest and I can compete with the best. ;)

As a concept it seems like it could do with more judges, but coordinating something like that would be insane.

To answer the question as a former IronDM champion and the current judge, I've used elements of my own entries on a number of occasions. I also take a lot of inspiration from my fellow contestants.

The reason that I'm such a big advocate of IronDM, now, though, is not just because it's a fun competition - it's a learning experience. My own players have remarked on how much my DMing has improved due to my participation in the competition. Primarily, the contest taught me how to focus on what's important about adventure design. It forced me to expend my energy on the most relevant items, while improvising the rest.

I also know that the comments of the judges, the great el-remmen, in particular, have been incredibly constructive. They've helped me to identify the common adventure design mistakes in my own game, which benefits both myself and my group.
