As with Ibram and Co above, Spell Components are not something we have used since 1st edition. Unless a spell has a Gp cost such as a Pearl of 100gp value, or 1000gp of silver dust etc... then we ignore the components part.

We do not keep trac of cheap ones, but of exotic ones, yes - I am especially fond of reminding casters that spider climb, the bane of rogue climb skills, requires a live spider - that, for me, is not something you pull out of a component pouch.

Like many people here, we only care about low value components as long as a character has a spell component pouch, which they keep updated.

Anything over 25gp however, we track.

Keeping the pouch is important to us, because when a spellcaster has their pouch taken, or loses it, or something else that causes them to lose the pouch or it's contents; then they are in trouble.

After the wizard was captured and escaped from a band of elves, it was very funny having them scrounge around in the dark for components so they could cast some of the spells they had memorised so as not to get caught again.

I suppose the question is only about those spell components found in a spell component pouch (and I bet, that many have answered this poll from the other perspective :p).

We do not track non-valuable components, but of course, completely unreasonable stuff is not included (like the stuff needed for the Frostlance (?) spell).

I think I'm going to start requiring unusual components being specifically retrieved as well. I haven't played a campaign where we get high enough to use listed GP spell components, so we generally don't even look at what's needed and assume it's in the spell component pouch. But something like "countermoon" where the requirement is "hair, scale or other castoff of creature to be affected" is too much fun to capture in-game:D

I answered "No" but meant piddly stuff gets ignored and expensive components cost as usual.

Typically, I just assume the old componet pouch handles things. However, I've also never in a game removed a wizard's component pouch so it's practically the same as giving everyone the Eschew Material Components feat for free.

In my defense, I'm not sure the spells with piddly spell components were really designed with the idea that this could be a real limitation (for Hero System fans probably a +1/4 lim, maybe +1/2 since everyone would know about it)--since it doesn't seem true that they're generally the more powerful or useful ones.

Yes, although most casters have spell component pouches.

Material components have even been plot points at times- for instance, recently the epic party imc had to go teleporting around seeking diamonds, cuz they bought all the local ones (for true rezzes) and a war is keeping a lot of others out of circulation and driving prices up

That's pretty much how we do it as well.

Diamonds and pearls are usually seperated out of the party loot and put aside.
