The Beast is a creature so old that even the TARDIS couldn’t translate the language of its captors. It claimed to come from before time began, to be the reality behind legends of demonic beings from throughout the universe. Among others it claimed to be the original Satan and Abaddon, although Abaddon was discovered beneath the Cardiff Rift by Torchwood 3, and Satan had been alternately claimed to be the product of contact with the Dæmons (by the 3rd Doctor) and the Osirian Sutekh the Destroyer (by the 4th Doctor). The 10th Doctor noted that the rather demonic-looking Dæmons had legends of other demonic beings themselves.
The Beast had been defeated millions of years ago by the Disciples of Light and sealed in a pit ten miles below the surface of a planet named Kron Tor in the Scriptures of the Faltino. Kron Tor had a power source within it that allowed the planet to orbit K37 Gem 5, a black hole. The Beast’s prison was designed so that the act of escaping would destroy the power source, and both the Beast and Kron Tor would be pulled into the black hole.
A creature possessed by the Beast may exhibit red eyes and strange characters tattooed on its skin. The Beast can, however, hide these signs at will (and usually will do so). Creatures that the Beast controls through Psychic Hypnosis have red, glowing eyes.
The Beast uses his Telepathic Reception to learn the secret fears and shadows that haunt his victims, and then uses those secrets to unnerve and control them. The Beast also made predictions of future misfortune, to further intimidate those within his sphere of influence. The Beast desired nothing more than to spread fear, misery, and destruction to others, while being worshipped himself.
When human scientists landed on Kron Tor to investigate the planet’s power source, their drilling woke the Beast. He possessed Toby Zed, and used Psychic Hypnosis to control the station’s Ood. The Beast’s plan was to escape in his possessed body, by frightening the scientific team enough to hitch a ride with the survivors. The 10th Doctor and Rose Tyler arrived in time (possibly due to the intervention of the Disciples of Light) to prevent the Beast from escaping. Kron Tor was destroyed, and the Beast ejected by Rose into space, presumably to fall into the black hole.
It should be noted that, while the Beast may have predated the universe, its capture did not. Its relationship to Abaddon, known as the “Son of the Great Beast” may be parental. The Beast may be related to other, similar, creatures, such as the Destroyer.
Advancement: None.
