Raven

From fairies to time lords. You do cover some territory.

I've been reading through your threads; they are, like your fey material, really impressive. If I get the chance, I'm going to have a crack at your character generation system.

Thank you very much, Sir.

May I point out that I am still recruiting to playtest this system?

:D

Thanks for your words of encouragement. So far, though, I can count the people who've expressed interest in this game on one hand.
Which finger am I then? I'm almost afraid to ask. :)

I don't really have the brain-space to contribute here but as I've said before I *do* think these rules evoke Dr. Who extremely well.

Just a few quick questions, as I'm building a character for your Game of Rassilon thread, and I was hoping to trick my character (if he's accepted) with a suite of Psychic Powers. Please keep in mind that I understand how psychic powers work in-game. :)

How many Powers are you allowed to choose as a 1st level character?
Are the number of Psychic Powers you know limited by your PSI score?
Does the (0) next to the Psychic Powers name mean it costs no PSI to use, and so is powered by action points?

Hey Raven

I actually found this thread through your recruiting thread. I saw your name and decided to take a look. I am tempted, but I am really am at my limit for games at the moment.

Anyway, here is the character I doodled up. You're right, the process is pretty straight forward, especially if you don't complicate things by moving too far away from the given skill set. Although, I kind of like the idea of making him an ex-soldier, so a few skill changes might be in order. The alternative was a soldier who spent some time in a seminary before enlisting. Or perhaps a police officer. But that would be pretty much a whole new character. Not that it would take long to create.

Out of curiosity, why did you decide to expand and change the attributes list?

Edmund Black, Catholic Priest.

Pcn +2, Kno +2, Psi +0, Prs +2

* Knowledge (Current Events) (KNO) +4
* Knowledge (Theology and Philosophy) (KNO) +4

Generally, you get one Knack at 1st level, and you can use that Knack to choose a Psychic Power.

The GM can make provisions for special characters.

Are the number of Psychic Powers you know limited by your PSI score?

No. (EDIT: So long as your PSI score is 0 or better, you can gain new Psychic Powers)

Does the (0) next to the Psychic Powers name mean it costs no PSI to use, and so is powered by action points?

0 means that it costs no PSI. Unless stated, you do not need to use Action Points either.

To better reflect Doctor Who, of course.

I decided that the game required Pcn and PSI. In DW, there are many creatures that are not agile but have great manual dexterity (or vice versa). Once I had gone that route, Endurance, Knowledge, and Personality were just better names (IMHO) for what was being described.

Nice character, BTW.

It Is All Clear To Me Now!

Ah, thanks for answering those questions about Psychic Powers, Raven. That makes far more sense, and makes Knacks even more worthwhile. There are so many great ones to choose from, and unless the playtest shows us otherwise, each Knack actually feels balanced against the next. (Which was obviously waht you were after, but sometimes it isn't that easy!)

Hmm, I think I may choose the Teleportation Psychic Power with my next Knack - Bwahaha!

Thanks, but there is not really much to him at the moment. Like a background, peersonality, description. I might have a crack at the seminary drop-out come soldier.
