D&D 5E Does 5E have to be available as a PDF for you to consider buying it?

oh!

Bit's and Mortar! I'd encourage WotC to support that idea.

http://www.bits-and-mortar.com/

I've been finding that I've gravitated to games that support Bits and Mortar, quite by accident, but it's made me very happy, for instance I just found out the The One Ring supports it and it made my day (so far). I may want to buy it, but if there isn't an electronic option I might find it difficult to commit. I love reading books, but I'd much rather leave them at home for conventions.

Should this thread be a poll?

Hardcovers and softcovers are my preferred formats. As long as those are available, the availability or non-availability of PDFs is a non-issue for me.

I would appreciate having the rules in PDF format, but I would prefer something better suited to use on a tablet.

What is better suited to use on a tablet than a pdf? I can't think of anything, currently, other than maybe Purple Sorcerer's DCC app, but that is really just an automatic table roller. HeroLab is currently usable with an iPad, but that doesn't help me much.

Some day, there may come a D&D edition where all the materials are exclusively in electronic formats.

But it is not this edition! For 2014, I want the sensory pleasures of fresh new D&D books. I have no doubt that PDFs of these books will be available, and it'd be great if purchasing a print product gave redeemable codes for obtaining the PDF equivalent.

I'll probably buy a physical copy of the core book(s), but I'd really like ebook format (pdf, epub, whatever) and online compendium or wiki format as well. I tend to use my computer for game prep, and my ipad at the game table. I have players who will prefer the book, though, so we need both.

I don't personally require PDFs, though I do like them because of the convenience of toting them around on my iPad. But WotC would be foolish to not get a format out there for the tablets - and PDF is a nice and convenient format that users can read (and annotate) via a lot of different tools.

The problems I have with pdf's are that they are created for one paper size, not for assorted screen sizes. There are no tablets with Letter or A4 format. In addition, the typical pdf has a lot of margins that you don't really need on a tablet (they already have "margins" around the screen). Also, pdf's don't allow you to resize the font. And yeah, I really prefer reading on a tablet instead of on a computer screen, which is why this matters.

Regarding your question, I don't know if there are any current format that handles the points I mention above in a good way. Maybe epub? I haven't gotten any epub books with advanced formatting (like tables, multiple columns, reflowing around pictures or similar), but I think it should be possible (it's basically html).
