Does anyone else never play humans?

Humans dull? I guess centuries of fiction writers would disagree with you on that!

I'm with Zappo: there's no bland races, only bland characters...

i noticed that one of the other folks said they play other characters because they like the idea behind being something other than a human female in the 21st century. what about a female human who slays dragons in a world completely unlike anything earth has ever seen?

im sorry im just so sick of DMing for elves....nothing personal

I'm pretty much the opposite. I play humans 95% of the time, although I'm willing to try new races every once in a while. The other races always seem to gimmicky to me. I can't seem to ever want to play a gnome, halfling, faen, litorian, or anything like that.

A character is bland if you make him that way. I find that human characters are more interesting because the players actually have to think of a personality instead of going with "generic elf 1".

Generic elf 1: Haughty and paternalistic.

Generic elf 2: Haughty and xenophobic.

Generic elf 3: Slutty human with pointy ears.

I think even a bog-standard core-rules pseudo-Tolkienesque elf can be interesting; the fact that I wouldn't play one even to prove that it can be done doesn't mean that I couldn't enjoy playing in a party with one.

It's just a shame that so many players out there think the "race" entry on the character sheet is equivalent to "personality".

i've noticed alot of other play nonhumans because they look at D&D as a strategy game and not a role playing game...thats why i did away with racial adjustments...play a dwarf because you want to not because you want to get a better edge...

I mostly play humans...when I get to play. I;ve only played in 2 3E D&D games and both times my character concept was for a human. I should have taken my shot at a Dwarven Cleric when i had the chance. In CRPGs (like Neverwinter Nights) I play a variety of races and classes simply because I can.

I rarely play humans because I like the RP value of elves and half-elves. Let me tell you though, that extra feat and skill point are slowly getting harder and harder to resist.

My characters are usually human...enough . I have had the "Innsmouth look" and had a conjurer that was an alien mind trying to get back outside of reality due to the severe fraility of my very mortal husk [or at least believed I was].
