Does casting in a grapple provoke AoO from grappler?

Even without the AoO casting from a grapple isn't free. To successfully cast while grappled you must make a Concentration check with DC = opponent's grapple check.

So you can teleport out, unless the fighter shakes you like a ragdoll. :)

PS

That isn't exactly correct...

To case a spell with no Somatic components, and material components in hand (or no material components) you have to make a Concentration check at DC 20+Spell Level.

In the case of a normal Teleport spell it would be DC 25, possible but not a reliable method of escape.

Actually, I would allow AoOs.

The wording about grappling says, you don't threaten an area and you lose your dex bonus to bystanders... but these restrictions don't apply to your grappling opponent.

By the letter of the law, when you are grappling, you don't threaten ANY area. You only get an AoO if you threaten the area in which the provoking action occurs.

Ergo, no AoOs while grappling, even against your grappled foe, unless you somehow still threaten an area (i.e. if your grapple is due to the Improved Grab ability).

So spellcasting would become easier while being grappled?

Even if the words of the law don't say so, I think the meaning is rather clear... No offence, but in this case I don't even need to rule zero.

Easier?

Heck, no.

You can't even TRY to cast a spell with a Somatic component (aside from Epic-level play).

And Somatic omponents? I hope you had them in hand BEFORE you got grappled, 'cause otehrwise, you're out of luck, too.

There aren't that many spells with only a V component, after all. Sure, sure, the spellcaster may have a few spells stilled ... but, so what? Gives Still Spell anotehr use than JUST for wizards or sorcerors who want to wear armor.

Plus, you have to make a concentration check, even if you CAN cast the spell ... or the spell is ruined.
