D&D (2024) Does Dance Bard Unarmored Defense work with shields?

Unarmored Defense. Your base Armor Class equals 10 plus your Dexterity and Charisma modifiers.

Since it says "base Armor Class" my thought is this stacks with shields if you had shield proficiency from a multiclass.

I also missed it, because it does not state it again in the description, because it is a sub ability. The monk ability is treated as their own. A bit of inconsistent design.

Because the Monk ability is standalone, the only benefit of being unarmoured, while the Dance Bard's is part of a larger package. Wording either otherwise than they did would have been cumbersome.

The monk has the same package in principle. Unarmed combat and unarmed defense. Both only available while unarmored.

Hmm, true - I'd forgotten that. I guess they're only still listed separately in the 2024 version as a bit of a legacy, they could have been folded in together.
