Does LARP freak anyone else out?

However, I am something of a blacksmith and metalworker so Im thinking for awile now I might join a metal weapons society and run around learing how to use swords, theres a lot of theme costuming and getting drunk too so it sounds like a laugh.
Ooh, and you're in Australia too! If you ever start up a business selling that sortof stuff, let me know and I'll put in an order!

Mmm... caltrops... swords... armour... mmm... there's an SCA near me that I've been meaning to look into for AGES but keep forgetting about.

don't larp, have no real desire to. I'm basically somewhat shy, and am not outgoing in large groups. I'm outgoing in small groups of people I know, table top seems beter suited for that.

Also this boffer larp I'm confused. Your actually swining foam bats at each other. How do you determine a hit. your actual skill? so if you suck you can't play a bad ass warrior, that would seem lame. So what is the deal?

The point is that a well-run Vampire LARP, held at a nightclub or house party type venue is an awesome place to get drunk and meet women.

Normal table-top D&D is..well..not.

I don't need any more excuses to get drunk and meet women. :D

I'd actually like to play in a werewolf or cyberpunk LARP where it used boffer weapons. The problem would arise when WW fans would say "This isn't Laws of the Wild!" and also the fact that it'd be kinda hard to assemble a big enough group of people for my purposes(filling out even a fair sized sept to keep it interesting).

Some of my friends and I have been working on a Shadowrun LARP... biggest problem is props. We're thinking possibly lazer-tag type guns for hit-determination :).

masochistic, I can do a pretty good job of explaining the breakup Kamard referred to),

Do tell, please, I'm actually sort of fascinated by it all.

The two sides seem to have more or less demonized "that other side".

They make guns that fire surgical tubing, like a big rubber band gun. Those are good, as long as you pay attention and don't cap someone in the head from 5', or they'll get a welt.
