Does Orb of Force affect a golem?

And another thing...

DOH! I meant "it's conjuration, so there's no SR is a load of horse doo".

It wouldn't be so bad if they took the 'not magical by the time it hits the target' thing to it's logical conclusion and made conjuration spells not automattically bypass DR. Being energy or force, it wouldn't help with the Orbs of course, but at least the whole thing would make a little sense.

There was a particularly funny example on the WotC website a while back. I forget exactly what it was called, but it created a wooden missile which 'bypassed DR as if it were cold iron'. Or, you know, as if it were a spell...

There is nothing sadder than a poor golem stuck in an Acid Fog.

No SR, no save. Just burn the poor dude up with acid.

Its movement is curtailed greatly, it's blind, and it's in a world of hurt. For extra mean-ness, drop another one of these on the guy when/if it escapes the first, or have a PC with acid protection up jump into the cloud and do a little hand-to-hand, to keep the stupid golem busy while it is being eaten away.

Conjuration? Huh? That just doesn't make any sense.
While I agree wholeheartedly with the LOGIC of what you say it's not WHOLLY inconsistent. For instance: Mage Armor.

Of course, Psionics are even worse with respect to illogic. *razellefrikkenfarginmutter* Hostile Empathic Tranfer Telepathy *damnmurkenfraggenmutter* Hustle not psychoportive *mutter*

It's funny, I've been raging at Burning Hands being an alterations since the early days of D&D. Finally in 3.5 my rage was quelled, until the Mini Handbook and Complete Arcane came to rain on my parade.

Bloken

I just don't understand why they would by pass SR… Anyway I think that the orb spells are broken they should mabye have a +4 to by pass SR or something isted of just negated… I just don't like it… Also inparticular orb of force… WTF no energy type just strait force… I could get used to the ORB spells if there were no orb of force

For the whole "magic bypasses DR" bit, there's a line from Complete Adventurer... where was it. Oh, yes:

Whenever a daggerspell mage casts an arcane spell that deals energy damage, he can turn half of the damage dealt by the spell into magic slashing damage rather than energy damage. Energy resistance does not apply to this damage, but damage reduction might.
-- daggerspell mage.

Sigh.

I've also houseruled that Rain of Stones (?, the Warmage spell) has to deal with DR. "I'm conjuring normal rocks, but they ignore DR. Really. I swear. Uh-huh."

Sigh...

Does nonmagical energy affect golems and bypass the DR?
If so, then the Orb of Fire spell is basically a large flask of Greek fire. Now, I know some golems are affected oddly by fire, but is that only magical fire?

Would a number of Greek fire flasks be the cheap and easy way for a low-level party to defeat a Clay Golem? Or acid flasks against the iron golem?

It seems that Golems need some immunity to non-magical energy attacks.
