HOUSE RULE

Because this thread relates to a ruling I made, I feel the need to comment.

The spell as written clearly stacks. It is, in fact, better than regular barbarian rage in that there is no fatigue or AC penalty. I do not like spells that steal the thunder of another class, esp third level ones. Because clerics have self-healing and the most powerful buffs, I think that for a cleric to rage wth a spell, he cannot cast spells and thus have the best of both worlds. As far as the stacking goes, Frenzy requires a prestige class and has some huge drawbacks. Rage has none. For the bonuses to be unnamed would be quite overpowered. If spells granting a d4+1 enh bonus are L2, then an L3 spell should no grant a +4 unnamed bonus to two stats and +2 to saves. Thus, I rule Zero that they do not stack for balance reasons.

Yeah, just compare it with something like Divine Power.

I think this is a very sensible ruling. I'd probably even rule the spell's ability increase as an enhancement bonus, much like any other spell of that kind.

That's the argument for letting them stack, at least in my book: if you won't let it stack, the barbarian gets the shaft, because he can't use it as well as the other classes.

Barbarians get the shaft, if they can't simply get +8 to Str and Con on top of Bull's Strength and Endurance?

The spell still gives a Barbarian/Cleric the ability to rage another time per day, not that bad!

Matt ruled (AFAIK), that the spell just mimics the class ability and thus does not stack on top of it, altho - by the rules - it would.

Yes. Because the rage is their class ability. They can't compete with other characters unless they can use it. And if they can't use rage and still benefits from those spells, a fighter simply outclasses them, because the fighter can use those spells and his class features at the same time.

So a fighter (or anyone else) can gain the barbarian's signature's class ability witha spell, but can a barbarian get the fighters signature ability? Is there a spell that grants you weapon specialization and a couple of bonus feats?

So, either let the bonuses of rage (and frenzy and whatever) and the boosts from spells stack or don't use the spells at all, or you'll punish the barbarians who were so "stupid" to use a class whose features can be mimiced with a spell.

In Dieties and Demigods there is a Prc called the Beserk, which gets Fury. Exactly like Rage, but different name. Rage, Rage Spell, Frenzy, Fury, and Bull's Strength. *Drool*And in Epic levels there is the Mighty Rage feat, you could try to persuade your DM to make equivalents for Frenzy and Fury.

don't forget Righteous Might and others I have in the Strength Smackdown.

But Bull's Strength is nothing compared to the Mighty Contender of Kord's enhancement bonus, unless you Triple-Empower it. :D
