Does RoE affect undead?

I see nothing in the description that mentions undead, so I don't know why they'd be immune.

I would say, though, that undead without a strength score (if they exist... I haven't checked) would be immune because there's nothing to reduce.

They are supposed to be. Thing was, the spell was going to ability damage, but that a bit too good and it was made an ability penalty. Because it is a penalty to the stat, rather than damage to the stat, it effects the undead.

The 3.0 version of the spell did not affect undead (because it allowed a Fort save), the 3.5 version of the spell affects undead because it applies a penalty (instead of doing ability damage) and does not allow a save.

It still doesn't affect constructs (because it's a necromancy effect).

Yeah, it being Necromancy makes me think it should work only on living targets. If its going to work on undead and constructs, it seems like it should be Transmutation.

Necromancy
Necromancy spells manipulate the power of death, unlife, and the life force. Spells involving undead creatures make up a large part of this school.

Transmutation
Transmutation spells change the properties of some creature, thing, or condition.
Mine's not a balance objection, its a fluffy one. (Also, I've never been clear on why the Fear spells are in Necro, and not Enchantment.)

It doesn't work on Constructs, only Undead.

Undead aren't inherently immune to necromancy. If they were, they'd be immune to Inflict spells, which are specifically used to heal undead, and Undeath to Death, which is specifically used to kill undead. Just because they're created by Necromancy doesn't mean that they're only subject to helpful Necromancy, without suffering the effects of harmful necromancy.

Ok the question is does RoE do ability damage? If so then undead are immune. Because it says under undead type: Not subject to critical hits, nonlethal damage, ability drain, or energy drain. Immune to damage to its physical ability scores (Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution), as well as to fatigue and exhaustion effects.
