Does your Dwarven warrior wield an axe?

Why would a Dwarf wield an axe?
What is there in their warrens that needs an Axe?
There are no trees down there...

That is why all the Dwarfs I run use either hammers,
or picks.

Thats exactly my way! Dwarfs are smiths and miners, not woodcutters!

Dwarves have always been my favorite race to play, and I've used many weapons. Had a bare-fisted brawler, a dagger and shortsword rogue (primarily, though he carried a number of weapons at different times), a scimitar-carrying reject from Al-Qadim, and one sawed-off, axe-swinging nutjob.

But I lean toward warhammers. They just fit.

I have played a large number of dwarves in my gaming career, most recently, my current character, Bergar the Black. He does his fighting with a typical axe, at least until it was shattered. Now, he uses a +1 longsword. But, soon, he will be back to being his grim old self.
