No offense, but why don't the soldiers just buy the dice? They earn money like the rest of us (please don't flame me for this, I just don't understand the initiative)

Because they are stranded in the middle of Bosnia with no outlet for gaming supplies? Access to the internet is extremely limited for these guys when they're not out clearing minefields, peacekeeping and being on alert for the next crazy terrorist that will try to kill them. We figured that since Wizards of the Coast sent these guys tons of books, but no dice - that it would be a nice gesture for us to help them out. Chessex donated 30 sets, I'm trying to get folks here to match those 30. I figure it's the least we can do for guys who get paid just above minimum wage to be the defenders of the free world. :)

I still don't agree, but thanks for the arguments Paladin, and good luck with the project.

It's real nice of you to do this for your stationed soldiers :-)

I personally will never buy from Tallon comics again due to this thread. There are far more needy people in the world then the US military.

There are few enough of us that have been stationed in a foreign land 8,000 miles from home, where many of those around you either resent your presence or are actively trying to kill you, that truly understand the depth of Paladin's efforts.

The ability or inability of a soldier to purchase something has nothing to do with it. People and organizations send care packages to soldiers who are well-equipped and well fed, and even have a PX close by to buy sundries.

It's at those times when a small gesture from the folks back home says: "We appreciate what you're doing, soldier. Thanks."

Aside from paying taxes, a gesture like this is the closest the majority of Americans get to sharing the hardships of those who defend them.

Edit: Apologies for preaching ... if you don't want to donate, don't, but please refrain from comment as well. I don't want to get Paladin's efforts shut down.

Maybe we shouldn't keep returning to read posts on threads that we know offend us?

BTW Paladin good work.

My brother is over seas right now. I understand if non-americans dont jump in and rally on this, why would they afterall?

But what you are doing does help, its pretty damn cool of you.
