Donating old gaming books?

The Shaman

First Post
It's sacrilege to some, I know, but I have a bunch of old game books to get rid of. I'm not interested in going the eBay route - too much work - and I don't want to throw them in the trash - too wasteful.

Has anyone tried donating their used gaming books to a charity, thrift store, or the like? Will they accept them?

How about donating them to a local orphanage (are they still called that?) or to a facility for incarcerated youth?
That's much more along the lines of what I was thinking - I'm not looking to make money on this, rather to see that the material gets in the hands of some kids who'll use it.

I doubt our county probation department would accept this stuff - I know a couple of the probation officers and life in juvenile hall is another world already...and I don't know that they would be willing to let the kids in the hall have dice or sharp pencils outside of a classroom setting.

I think I may end up giving them to the thrift store for the children's hospital, if they'll take them.

RPG books to a church? My god I can see the Headlines now!

"Local man struck down entering church's doors."

"He was such a nice boy," said local women Doris Nosyneighbor. "I thought he knew better. But he brought those Satanic books into a house of the lord and BANG!"

The services will be held at...

Well you get the joke. ;)

I suggested it before. Try the USO or you country's equivilent therof. Most countries have troops serving overseas and there seem to be quite a few gamers in the forces. serving overseas generally involves large amounts of downtime.

Try a used bookstore. Often they will want to give you store credit, but might give you cash.

Otherwise, I'm pretty sure thrift stores and outfits like godwill will take about anything.

Edit: Just read Imperialus' response. That's the best idea in this thread, IMHO.
