Donation Request

BrooklynKnight

First Post
Hi. I'm sure a few of you guys know me, either from my DND Con a few months back, or from SKR's Boards.

My full name is Arthur Borko
I am the Co-President of the Brooklyn College Sci-Fi Club.
I restarted her from scratch with 6 members and now have over 50.

However there are some problems. Due to the previous clubs in-activity our budget was drastically cut. They did not buy any new books in YEARS. And we were tossed a 2 year old bill.

I would like to here publicy request any Donations of a RPG Nature in the form of Core Books or any other books for any rpg systems you feel you are willing to give.

If Morrus doesnt mind i plan to make a more formal request via the news update (i emailed him about it a while ago)

IF anybody is willing to send anything (from D&D3e to other systems such as marvel or whitewolf, movies, an old unused game system.....anything) please email me at WBCRFanboy@aol.com The donations ARE Tax Deductable.

I would like to start a hefty 3e/d20 collection to get new people involved in the game.

Also. Does anyone know who i can email at wizards to reqest a donation of books.

Note: Please only email me at WBCRFanboy@aol.com in repsonse to donations or requests for more info. It is my college buisness email. For any personal stuff try me at VongKiller18@aol.com

Just tried your website link and it didn't work. This may be a problem at my end, but just thought I'd let you know.

Edit: Your website link, sorry, I wasn't being clear.

in my opinion begging for money online (for whatever cause) is lame. How do we know you really have anything to do with a book club? You'd be better off contacting your local Lions Club. Posting on a message board is easy, but if you want to fundraise you should be looking up all community groups and other book clubs in your area. If your cause is legitimate than these groups should help you. If they don't then it means your organization has some problem and we shouldn't support you either.

I have tried to make this post constructive criticism

Are you folks participating in the upcoming Brooklyn gaming con Knight Games? It's being held in early November, and (although I can't make it this year for personal reasons) it's one of my favorite small cons. Email knghtgames@aol.com for more info or to volunteer to judge.

Not all of our members are gamers, They are just sci-fi fans.
One reason i am trying to get books donated is so i can run games at the club and get more people involved.

(and so anyone else can run games too.)

If someone mailed us a flyer i would definatly tack it up and place it in our news updates.

And as for the constructive critisism.
If your worried about us not being a legitment group, i would be more then happy to give you the contact information of Dave Bryant. The Coordinator of Student Clubs at Brooklyn College.
All donations must go through the "CD" office and be registered fully regardless.

now as to "why dont you contact these groups"
#1 I dont know them, or have never heard of them
#2 I dont have time, I do have classes
#3 I decided to get donations from the sources i know and not chase goasts. I figured the many d20 companies that are involved here would be more then happy to expose roughly 50 people to their product in hopes that when they go home, they buy their own private copy. Maybe i was wrong.

by the way, the college website is http://brooklyn.cuny.edu
our website will be linked to theirs as soon as i fill out the proper forms.

One Last thing. I am not here asking for money. We can easily get a grant from the various student orginizations in the form of cold hard cash.
I am here asking for D&D books and d20 books. And we arent a "book club" either. Otherwise we would spend that money solely on books.

Our orginization revolves around everything sci-fi fantasy and anything its active members are intrested in doing.

From watching movies every monday and wed at 12, to the small group that plays AD&D 2e thursday nights. To the couple of people that wander in and play magic.

If you live in the area i would be more then happy to invite you as our guest and check out or "office"

just a note on some possible events planned

A trip to Mideival times.
Horror Movie Marathon and Halloween Party in conjuction with Student Government.
Through a friend I am contacting someone who lives in the "vampire" lifestyle sub-culture. In an attempt to better get to know their point of view i am trying to set up an interview with them so any intrested parties can come and ask questions and get to know them without the prejiduce and ridicule they usually face.

I have to largely agree with the previous critical poster: you and your group have the means of obtaining these on your own. You're college students in the largest city in the United States. You aren't a 501(c)3 charity doing good for the community. You aren't serving our country with a serious availability problem. Buckle down and get your own stuff.

If anyone's doing any donating, I'd be happy to hook you up with my local Boys & Girls Club or Big Brothers/Big Sisters who actually need donations, are doing good for the community, and most of whose members cannot afford these kinds of materials. I'm sure this is true of charities all over the country.

I find it extremly rude that you would hijack my thread in this fashion. I am appealing to gamers to donate books to create new gamers.

Members of our club are already involved in other charity events and specific orginizations on the college campus that do just that.

My special especially, ive done work with project peace recently. In the past with Project Hope, the local YM-YWHA, Blood-drives, food drives.....whichver.

Jeez. The obnoxiousness of some people really amazes me.

Heavens, no need to get upset.

I suggest examination of your motives. Obnoxiousness is most definitely in the eye of the beholder.

Good luck on your quest to have gamers donate books to a bunch of people who can buy them for themselves.
