Donation Request

Thats the problem with your assumption.

We arent looking to buy personal copies.
And not everyone can buy copies to give to the club either.
Most of the members are in debt trying to pay off student loans and rent.

The members of the club that CAN donate did.
One member donated 2000$ worth of old Whitewolf books plus a massive movie collection.

I donated over 500$ worth of starwars the CCG that i collected over the last 5 years.

Another member donated more starwars cards.

However my motives here are specifically to get 3e/d20 matieral for the club to use as a group.

Unfortunately Arthur, some people are a little skeptical, mainly because there are LOTS of people downloading PDF files of d20/3rd edition books FROM Kazaa and other sources. Not to mention some of us are, like myself, unemployed.

However in the nature of good will, I'll donate my own copy of the first 2nd edition FR box. I don't need it any more.

Yea the whole thing is, I could do that. But dont want to.
Id rather the club have legit material.

email me at WBCRfanboy@aol.com and i will email back the information on the correct person to contact about your donation if you want a tax refund

If not i'll just email you an address to ship the box too.

And thanks

Edit: Also im not asking anyone who cannot donate to donate.
Im asking the people who have the resources and good will. Such as yourself. We arent looking for money.

And nobody has still answered the question. Just who at wizards do i email.

Email for Knight Games is corrected, back in my original post.

Arthur, thus probably isn't the place to come asking for free donations. Asking once isn't a big deal, but please don't keep bumping this thread and making impassioned pleas. It could easily be considered spam, and a lot of folks find it more than a bit rude.

I am even more irritated at your blanket condemnation that "gamers really dont give a rats patoot bout one another." That's absurd; of course we do. But you've just joined our community, and haven't contributed to it more than a tiny bit. Walking in with your hand outstretched is far more likely to alienate members than it is to impress them.

Best of luck with your group. I hope you buy or find the materials you're looking for.

Arthur, I feel for what you're trying to do, and if I was in a financial position to help out, I would. Someone gave me my first D&D book, and I like to pay that forward whenever the ole budget allows.

You might, however, have better luck with more traditional fundraising methods. There's probably a faculty advisor at your college who can give you advice on what works and what doesn't.

Best bet: Contact companies directly for copies, not to mention game stores for donations. A local convention did the former for their game room, and have **lots** of games. None of them are rpg, however.

I of course do plan to ask developers.
Ive already asked Monte and SKR and both more then graciously agreed to send something.

My hope was to reach those developers at once through here, instead of emailing everyone one at a time.

And yes, we are planning fundraisers for the future.

One of our core members is a professional tarot card reader and she gives readings for 15$ all of which goes into our account.

(The same kind of readings you pay 50$ for in any city :-P)

We also have a number of bake sales planned.

The best way for SF&F clubs to raise money in my experience to to hold a convention. I know there are tons of conventions in the NYC area, so the key is to (a) keep it small and inexpensive, and (b) get a decent guest. You'd be surprised how many SF&F authors are willing to stop by a convention that's being held in large city at the same time as they're coming through for a book tour, and you're in the very center of the publishing world (at least in the US).

I've run multiple SF&F cons now each with over 1,000 attendance and have worked at many others including large ones including WorldCon. If you don't have any folks with experience in your area who might help with this and you want any tips on how to get something like this off the ground please feel free to email me. Even your first small convention could easily raise hundreds of dollars, and before you know it you can be raising a few thousand each convention.
