Don't you hate it when...

When that happens, sometimes I'll just use the same character in a different campaign. But I don't do it that often because I really like rolling stats.

I've actually played more continuous sessions this last campaign (I think I'm up to 10 or 11 sessions now) than I have in the last dozen compaigns. It's an odd feeling to actually have an attachment to a character again.
 

Thankfully, I've not had campaigns cut that much short. Sure, a few did end with a TPK after a while, which was disappointing, but never so quickly that I felt I didn't get time to make my fun attained worth the effort of creating the character.

My main problem lately has been in finding a group to play with that is local to me (Lansing, Michigan).
 

I'm the DM who causes all these problems, and so, I apologise.

My players must have a good score of 3E characters each, and each character gets used for a few sessions each. I am a campaign nut/killer.

In my defense, several campaigns have ended as the mix of players I have changes pretty frequently. It is the same core of about 7 people, but they seem rotate in and out with real life obligations. Also, the players consistently create parties that really can't make it "unless Paul is here with his cleric" or other such character-type dependence.

All that aside, I am just too lazy to try to redesign an old campaign idea to fit current circumstances when I have the golden opportunity staring me in the face to try out my new "Dino-pirates of Ninja Island versus the Monkey-mecha hordes" campaign.
 

Lessee, in V3 and 3.5;

1> Really cool Mobile Fighter idea that I got to play up to 4th level in a 3.0 game. Really shined vs the mooks we were always fighting. Nine players, six of whom were playing Monk/Somethings or Rogue/somethings. All of the multi-classers complaining about how I outmaneuvered and out-fought their characters. Naturally! Game ended because the GM decided that some of the players were obnoxious and a few were too sporatic in attendence.

I still talk about this character as having been a great concept that was fun to play.

2> Monk/Wizard with a 41 point build. GM wanted to get us up in levels fast, so he was advancing us about 1 level per session. Unfortunately, he first got demoralized when one good player left, then he brought in another player who immediately went on an "I refuse to play with so-and-so" binge until the GM finally called a halt to the game.

3> Current PC. A straight Wizard build, 4th level. Really enjoy playing him despite some of the handicaps Wizards present to my normal gaming style. But the GM has some issues with the way the game is going and with me specifically, so the game is now "on haitus".

Beyond those, I've seen more than one campaign end because the GM suddenly decided that he wanted to play a completely different setting or try something different. I wasn't as attached to those characters, but it still gets annoying to have a perfectly good game yanked out from under one's feet just because the GM decides he's bored with it.
 


So far I've had only had a few characters that I liked that got cut short... One was a fighter based off of indiana jones, (whip and everything) and another was a cleric of olidammara who specialized in practical jokes.
 

Once, my character was killed, so I created a new one. While not terribly original, perhaps, he quite different from my last few characters, and I was excited about playing him. But we never played again.
 

Lost an excellent sorceress character (CN alignment, generally afraid of everyone, and very very bitter - just a great character to play) when a campaign went down due to the DM going back to school. On the plus side, those of us who remained started up another campaign, and I'm pretty fond of my character (druid) in that one as well.
 

Ya, it really stinks. I think my really cool elven Scout is going to go into the folder of lost charcters as that game is probably done for...
