Double Whammies: Ever Use Complimentary Threats in Game?

I believe it was a Hallowe'en issue. I don't see why you'd put together troglodytes and rust monsters, but the article mentions werewolves and rust monsters, hehehehe.....

A DM I know had a Necro hit the big-wigs in a town with Spectre's coming up out of the floor and then, after some combat, drops a Cloudkill in the room.

You can have a group crying uncle with Shambling Mounds or Flesh Golems with Shocker Lizards and Scintillating Spheres. Its like the Iron Golem tricks, except you can pull it off with groups in the low double digits.
Hit the group with an Empowered or Maximized Scintillating Sphere when the Golems and Mounds are winding down. Its brutal.

I particularly like my Mind Flayers with Elementals (which are immune to stunning, so the 'flayers could blast away into the combat regardless)

Summoning Elementals against Mind Flayers is one of my go-to tactics when facing them, never thought to use them together, though.

One of my campaign arcs was titled 'the door in the air' - the PCs discovered that the dwarves used to be a slave race of the mind flayers, and in the process they also discovered a cloud giants castle which was being used to wedge open a mid-air gate to the elemental plane of air, from which the mind flayers were planning to invade the world atop an army of huge air elementals.

Armageddon was avoided by between 1 - 1.5 melee rounds :)

I used an iron golumn in a room with cross hatched walls of fire and just bull rushed my way around the room always leaving the golum standing within a wall if possible. When people decided to try archer I generated damage against the arrows and watched them burst into flames. It was a fun little fight especially with the bulrush that basically shook up everyone’s position every round.

An encounter with both Wraiths & Wights in it seems like a very tough mix.
I would think that Wraiths and even more wraiths or Wights and even more Wights would be more complementary than Wights and Wraiths. Taking half of someone's levels and half of someone's Constitution may be nasty, but taking all of either is lethal.
