I know that El-Remmen had a thread on the same problem some time back (1-2 years back). I think his solution was to have all players vote whom they'd like to stay in the group the most, putting those that lost out on a waiting list.

Maybe he'll chime in with the specifics.

Well, I bit the bullet and posted the following to the club message board just now (names deleted):

Invite List

Hi all - ok this has been quite difficult, I'm not used to having more good players than I can accommodate! In principle I'd be very happy to play with any of you. Not being on the Invite list doesn't mean I don't like you, or think you're a bad player. Taking into account all factors such as communication, playing skill, PC suitability, general compatibility, length of playing time, and so on, I've decided on the following for the 4th October game.
