DR: x/Good vs x/Holy

Roll for Initiative!
Alright, this is probably explained somewhere, but apparently I'm too dense. :)

So, is DR x/Good the same as x/Holy? What about x/Evil and x/Unholy? I assume that Holy is also Good, but is Good the same as Holy (for the purposes of DR)?

Thanks!

hmmm i suspect not

to make a weapon good aligned, you must first cast the spell 'align weapon'.
from the player's handbook page 197:
"a weapon that is aligned can bypass the damage reduction of certain creatures, usually outsiders of the opposite alignment. this spell has no effect on a weapon that already has an alignment, such as a holy sword."

in any case, a holy sword is considered a 'good aligned weapon' with the appropriate damage reduction for the nasty in question.
and i suspect the same would be true for unholy/evil weapons. ^_^

I think not. Holy/unholy are special ench..., erm, magical enhancement that can be slapped on a weapon.

An outsider with the (Good) subtype has natural attacks that are "good," but not necessarily "holy."

While a holy weapon is necessarily good. That's how I see it anyway.

Right, but say you are a creature with a DR of x/good, and your natural attacks count as weapons with your DR equivilant: Good. So, say you hit a creature with DR 5/Holy. Does your "Good" natural attack bypass the "Holy" DR?

dun think so

don't think so.
because they're both good you see.
the align weapon/holy weapon bypass stuff only affects creatures of the opposite alignment. in fact, if you attack a good-aligned outsider with a holy or good aligned weapon, the weapon would probably twist out of your hand or something. think of the lotr the two towers when Aragorn tries to attack Gandalf before they realise who he is. The sword heats up, forcing Aragorn to drop it because i assume his sword is 'good aligned or holy' and attacking Gandalf is against it's alignment.

Or that was just Gandalf's doing, because he got the Ring of Fire...

Anyway, holy is a subgroup of good. What's holy is good, but what's merely good is not holy.

lol

true, but that was just an example of what might happen if you try to attack a good aligned outsider with a holy or good aligned weapon. ^_^

I don't have my DM's guide in front of me but..

There are many weapon abilities that come in normal, and super-sized flavor. Good, for instance, doesn't do anything special except bypass DR. Holy, on the other hand, includes Good, and does an extra 2d6 points of damage to evil creatures.

There's also Evil...Unholy
Lawful...Axiomatic
Chaotic...Anarchic

Good, Evil, Lawful, and Chaotic just bypass DR. Whereas their supersized versions (Holy, Unholy, Axiomatic, Anarchic) count as their lesser form AND do 2d6 extra damage.

Could someone please give me an example of a creature with DR /Holy because I can not seem to find a creature with that type of DR (or /Unholy for that matter)?
