[Draconomicon 2] Dragons worshipping gods?

Mercurius

Legend
Pfaw! I scoff at that idea, Richard Baker and Ari Marmell! No dragon worships any other being, only perhaps fearing or honoring greater individuals of its own kind. But worship? Never.

I can totally see where he is coming from. Dragons as potent, egomaniacal creatures that view humans and their ilk as like unto ants- yeah, that's pretty well how I see it imc too.

Well exactly, Jester. My sentiment was serious--that I find the notion of dragons worshipping gods a bit silly--but I framed it (or tried to frame it) in a humorous way.

Why would an Ancient Red worship anyone or anything? I suppose Tiamat would be worthy of reverence, but worship? What about a brash young blue? Or a proud silver? Etc.

Because they created you and, if they wished it, could extinguish your life with but a thought, and your worship of them causes their power - and YOUR power - to grow.

:hmm:

I don't really get the thread.

Assuming that gods created dragons, which is not always a fair assumption in all milieus. Some campaign worlds posit that the gods are the creations of the races that worship them; others, that the gods are just super-powerful outsiders. Not all campaigns view the gods as omnipotent, even in their own portfolio. Heck, 1e and 3e even have stats for gods- you can go fight them, and I've had gods killed imc by pcs in EVERY edition.

Edit: Except 4th. Yet.

Didn't DCon 2 addressed this already? Dragons (in general) don't worship gods like humans do, instead they see it as more of an arrangement that benefits them.
