[Draconomicon 2] Dragons worshipping gods?

Nice mischaracterization--that is not at all what I said or mean. This is a waste of time--it is as if some folks are looking to pick a fight. I'm not playing. Buh bye.

I think it's obviously just a trolling thread and should be closed.

It could be a trolling thread. But I was actually following the conversation with interest.

My worlds bounce back and forth between dragons worshipping or being "above" all that. Most of the time I considered them primordial beings (before the word was co-opted, /rant which by the way happens a lot in my campaign where I have to alter words and races and things because DnD makes a different use standard and it throws off my players.../rant off) that would never consider worshipping one of those "newcomer races" known as gods.

Thus are the risks of using humor on the internet. Not everyone will see it.

I think the OP made a valid point about psychological inconsistency, but since he applied some jokes to his presentation of that point, we went off the rails.

Of course it isn't a trolling thread. It is someone posing a question, and attempting to do it in a humorous fashion. They may or may not have succeeded in that, but calling something trolling is a fast way of getting a suspension.

If you think it is trolling, you can certainly report it (but considering that Henry is already participating in the thread, you might guess that we already think it is OK, no?)

Never mind Dragonlance too. Dragons worshipping gods is pretty old hat in D&D.

It's a nice change of pace for dragons as well. Dragon kingpriest of the land makes for a pretty funky adventure setting.

I guess I just have a conception of dragons within which the idea of god-worship has little place. It isn't just the uber-egotism that a dragon might (should?) have, but that god-worship personalizes them too much when I see them as the embodiment of primal forces of nature and not "people" per se.

One of the archetypes of fantasy that seems common in RPGs is the idea of an early age in which dragons are the dominant species. Then come the titans or giants then the gods, then the elder races (elves, dwarves, etc) and eventually humans. It is interesting to note just how often something like this occurs, although it makes sense in that it is a reflection of many of our world's mythologies. But the point is, dragons came before the gods--the gods largely being embodiments of human(oid) characteristics and concerns.

As for dragon gods, well, the only way I could see fitting them into my own homebrew is as immortalized dragons--either the original dragons of an earlier age or great dragons that ascended to a level of power, bypassing decay and decrepitude by attaining some kind of elixir or font of immortality (perhaps dragons accumulate treasure in an attempt at a kind of alchemy of immortality--they seek to transform gold into an immortal essence). Perhaps all dragons seek to become immortal but most go senile and eventually diminish. So dragons wouldn't as much "worship" ascended dragons but fear them, perhaps even rever them (and be jealous of them). But worship? Not in my world ;).

To quote Canis "Thus are the risks of using humor on the internet."
Obviously, if I believed it should be reported, I would have simply reported it, just as I've done many times before :)

Still, if the thread is supposed to be 'humorous' it would have been nice to use the [humour] tag.

Apparently, I failed as miserably with my 'humorous' reply as the OP (which may or may not have been intentional ;)).
