[Draconomicon 2] Dragons worshipping gods?

Why would an Ancient Red worship anyone or anything? I suppose Tiamat would be worthy of reverence, but worship

Well, you might (or not) be surprised what a haughty Red dragon would put himself through for a shot at a bit of dragon Ménage à Sixi with an exotic 5-color babe.

Pfaw! I scoff at that idea, Richard Baker and Ari Marmell! No dragon worships any other being, only perhaps fearing or honoring greater individuals of its own kind. But worship? Never.

If you don't like the idea of dragons worshiping gods in your campaign(s), that's fine.

But your complaint regarding the new Draconomicon is a bit silly. D&D has a long tradition of dragons as servants of gods, worshiping gods, and of course, attempting to become gods themselves. This isn't some new invention in 4th Edition.

Well exactly, Jester. My sentiment was serious--that I find the notion of dragons worshipping gods a bit silly--but I framed it (or tried to frame it) in a humorous way.

Why would an Ancient Red worship anyone or anything? I suppose Tiamat would be worthy of reverence, but worship? What about a brash young blue? Or a proud silver? Etc.

Thanks to Dire Bare for making my point. Dragons worshiping a god is not a 4e thing and should thus not be attributed to Mouse and Baker.

True -- Lord Io has been around since at least 2nd edition, though Council of Wyrms was first I heard of anything besides Tiamat and Bahamut. (You know, Chronepsis and the whole bunch.)

This entire discussion is much ado about nothing; the two page section on Metallic Dragons and religion (and to be fair, most of the second page is actually about metallic dragon exarchs) begins with the following passage:

Draconomicon: Metallic Dragons said:
Dragons of any variety worship deities only reluctantly, and they do so in a much different spirit from that of devout humanoids. Instead of humbling themselves before the deities, they strike bargains, seeing diving being as strong allies and examples worth emulating.

Yeah, I read that--which was part of the reason I made the half-joke in the first place.

The only "ado" in this thread are some of the reactions to my rather innocuous post.
