Dragon #336

The crunch value of Dragon has really gone down a lot. I really wish they would put more prestige classes (without the new format, I still dunno why they have to use it), spells, feats, monsters, etc.

I miss the good ol' Dragon days where I would see stuff like "7 new prestige classes!" or "40 new spells!". That was what made me excited every month for the next Dragon.

*sigh* :(

YAY! Ecology of the Shadar-Kai - that should be interesting! Now I can't wait for 337. :(

Say, whatever happened to that article about playing in the world of Bas Lag? Did I miss that?

All I can say is... thank goodness the crunch factor has gone down. There is still plenty of crunch, but it's no longer meaningless page-count padding.

This seems as good a place as any to ask. What do ENWorlders think of the "Lore" series of Class Acts (the Knowledge check ones)?

Like? Loath? Have any suggestions as to how to make future installments more useful?

One thing that worries me though, is the article on the Shadar Kai. I've said this before, but, if they do Ecology articles on non-core creatures, they should include a statblock for the critter so those of us who maybe don't own the book can use it. Otherwise, it's a six page advertisement with lots of flavour. :(

Now keep in mind that I work on the OTHER magazine, but I'm pretty sure that the plan is to include some sort of stat block in ecologies that feature non-core monsters. In the Spawn of Kyuss one I wrote, there's a new template that basically lets you turn anything that breathes into a slightly tougher version of the Monster Manual II spawn of Kyuss, so readers who have this issue but don't have the Monster Manual II will still be able to use it in the game.
