Dragon #345

Was the Baba Yaga mention something that came from Russian legend/mythology? That is, are there Russian tales in which Baba Yaga and Kostchtchie interact?

Nope; that was all my invention, but it seemed to make sense to have two of the big Russian D&D monsters to meet each other.

As FCI detractor, I'll also chime in that the Kostchichie article is very good. (if only..... :) )

On the topic of Mavawhan: It struck me as a nod to Ithaqua. Is that intended, or is it just obivous common theme elements for a ice/cold/air demon?

It's coincidence. Being a huge Lovecraft fan (and to a lesser extent a Derleth fan), it's natural that shades of Ithaqua might seep in to anything cold-related I write. I did the wendigo monster for the Fiend Folio though... that one's DEFINATELY a nod to Ithaqua (and to the movie Ravenous).
