Dragon #349

Subscribers usually get their copy a week or two before stores I've seen.

Heck, with the cover price at $8, I can't really see any reason not to subscribe these days. Give 'em away if you get an issue you don't like as X-Mas presents or Birthday gifts. :p

I've thought about it, but I'm really only interested in the Demonomicon articles. So four of them are 32 bucks and a full sub is 39 I think. So I may end up going for it.

That cover price is crazy though. But maybe other magazines are that much too, I don't read many.

Flex,

My uncle paid for my Analog subscription. I believe it cost him... 50 dollars for 1 year.

And while I would subscribe I got other things I need to pay for. Thus I rely on my local B&N to get them either a week later than the subscribers but always weeks before anyone else in Morgantown gets theirs. Don't ask me why.

Do any of the Paladin variant class features replace the Remove Disease ability?

Aura of Banishment does. Within thirty feet of you, evil outsiders with less hit dice than your paladin level cannot be summoned, nor can such creatures use summoning or teleportation effects. You also get a +2 bonus to Intimidate checks against evil outsiders.

Hey, what's the Savage Tide info about? Something about dungeons and random encounters?

It's an overview of the area around the city of Sasserine. It covers the nearby geography, Sasserine's holdings, the local ruins, and nearby dungeons, with sidebars on the Crimson Fleet and where to get replacement PCs.

Ha ha, that's awesome. Once I get this magazine, I'm going to highlight this section and give it to my players. I'm sure they'll love that (since we've almost had a casualty already, and we're not even halfway through the first adventure)

Regarding Dagon: The line about the Obyriths predating the deities is nice, fitting in nicely with the earlier timeline of lower planar prehistory from Hellbound. What I most liked though was the name dropping of various Obyrith lords and their fates, some of whom we've heard about before and one or two of which IIRC are new. Very cool.

I generally try to put in one or two new demon lord names in each Demonomicon. For Dagon, though... there's only one brand new one: Vroth-Khun.

There's a copule of really obscure ones, though, who've been mentioned before in D&D but never in the context as demon lords. A very epic-level version of Lascer appeared in issue #297 of Dragon (If I were to stat him up today as a demon lord, he'd probably be CR 26 or so rather than CR 58). And mysterious Ubothar, the Thunder Below, was first mentioned in an enormous adventure I wrote for the WotC website (titled, appropriately enough, "The Thunder Below")—although I didn't actually call him a demon lord in that adventure, rest assured that was my plan for him all along.

How many others are en route to WotC's site to download "The Thunder Below"? ;)

actually, there are only 3 Demonomicon issues annually. they come out once every 4 months... thus 3 times per year. if you're looking *only* for the Deomonomicon articles, a subscription is probably too much for you.
