I thought the books were really well done - even if I wasn't crazy about the system mechanics as a whole.
As has been said, it's pretty restrictive as far as character creation goes. I actually think the video game gives more options than the pnp game. It's good for a quick game, and it's fairly easy to set up.
If you're looking for a more in depth experience with more options, the books give enough fluff and background info to make running a Dragon Age quest in one of the universal systems (i.e. GURPS) fairly easy.
Overall, I'd say the product is well done even if it doesn't contain as much as I was hoping it would when I first heard about it.
