Dragon and Dungeon: The Ripple Effect

Maybe they will sell advertising space on the pay site.
That'd be a good way to keep me away--fill it with advertisements. Online advertisements suck. Some websites offer ad-less options if you pay. Besides, why would WotC advertise competitors?

Regarding the fliers mentioned with Paizo products, I'd hope it'd be more like a brochure/pamphlet with a bunch of companies with information displayed like the current 'First Watch' section (or similar) of Dragon, than an actual flier for each company. That could be a bit cheesy.

Jdvn1,

Yeah I heard that. While my old FLGS moved out, the other one that was around never regularly carried Dragon OR Dungeon. That's why I decided to stick with Barnes and Noble. They did.
Heh, it was the opposite for me. I go to my FLGS for the magazines (and, thusly, 3rd party books), my bookstore for the WotC books (ew, not Barnes and Noble! ;) ).

Jdvn1,

It's only recently that I did Barnes and Noble. Usually I went to Waldenbooks or later on Books a Million. Most of my FLGS was spent on Dragon occasionally but like you, I perused it.

As for the ads, I'm kind of hoping it's like the catalog I got in the mail, a small booklet of stuff with ads.

As soon as I saw this thread, I thought a better title for it would have been:

Dragon and Dungeon: The Effect of Ripple

(for those too young, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ripple_(wine))

As in they've been drinkin' (and to paraphrase a certain rap tune): "Evrbody in WotC gett'n tipsy!"

That is the only logic I see here...unless there really is a reason the guys on the coast consider themselves "wizards" (like the local flora...)

Yeah, forget the readership- advertisers are really not going to like this. I suspect there will be several FLGS operators who won't care for it either- I can't tell you how many times I've heard someone say they go into a store to buy Dragon or Dungeon and buy other stuff while they're in the store, or how many FLGS managers or employees refer a customer to the latest issue on the stand to check something out.

It won't be the demise of the hobby by any stretch of the imagination...but it will definitely be a rocky transition for some of us.

I might enjoy Pathfinder after my subs to the 2 mags expire or I might not, but I sure as sin won't be subscribing to an online magazine for any other reason than absolute necessity (read: work or education).

I won't hold going to B&N against you, don't worry. ;)

That's the word I was looking for! Except I wouldn't expect to be able to order stuff through the catalog--just ads.

Danny,

Or to start a revolution via a Neo type deal! ;) Dannyalctraz! The one! ;)

Jdvn1,

Yeah I'm hopeful I'm right about a catalog type ad deal. They're small and still fun to look over.

Thanks for not hold B&N against me!
