Dragon ball Z prestige class

Zack2216

First Post
I was on another board and I found that no one had done anything dragon ball Z'ish. I became inspired and decided to write up this class. Give suggestions on abilities and stuff :D .

(needs a name)
Prerequisites: Strength 17+, Dexterity 17+, Ki strike, and lightning reflexes.

Skills: those of a monk
HD: d8
Base attack bonus: monk
weapon and armor profficiency: those of a monk
saves: reflex and fortitude good

Level
1- +1 to existing class
2- +1 to existing class
3- +1 to existing class--Kamehameha (1/day) Ki Strike (+2)
4- +1 to existing class--Flash
5- +1 to existing class--Fly
6- +1 to existing class--Kamehameha (2/day) Ki Strike (+3)
7- +1 to existing class--Blindsight (5')
8- +1 to existing class
9- +1 to existing class--Kamehameha (3/day)
10-+1 to existing class-Kaoken(1/day)

Kamehameha- this ability allows the fighter to focus her Ki into a beam of energy. This attack does 3/4 of the characters total level ie. a level 15 PC would deal 11d6. This attack is a a beam that can extend to a maximum of 100 ft, and is a 2 foot wide cylinder. It deals magic damage and isn't subject to spell resistance. This is a supernatural ability.

Flash- this ablility allows the character to teleport a small distance away in the blink of an eye. The distance is equal to the base characters movement speed. ie a character with a base speed of 70 ft. (a 14th level monk) would be able to Flash 70 ft. The character can do this once per round as a standard action. This is a spell like ability (I think).

Fly- the character gains the ability to fly. The character can fly at twice their base movement speed. This ability can be used 10 minutes/ prestige class leve. It doesn't have to be used all at once, and can be spread and used in different intervals. This is a spell like ability.

Blindsight 5'- As the character trains, he can not only control her ki, but can sense the ki of others. This allows her to sense living things within a 5' radius of her. same as the supernatural ability. can't be flanked, etc.

Kaoken- the most potent ability the character has access to. The character becomes sheathed in a red flamelike aura. This ability acts like haste, adds +2 to the overall ki bonus (making it +5), makes the kamehameha ability deal 1d6/level, and adds +4 to strength and +4 to dexterity. However, by unleashing this ability she puts herself in danger. By unleashing her Ki in such such a raw form, she runs the risk of permanently hurting herself. Each round she uses this ability, she loses 1 point of temporary constitution damage. If she uses a Kamehameha, she loses an additional point of temporary constitution damage. They warrior usually only uses this ability in dire cases. It takes 1 day of rest to recover 2 constitution points. It can be recovered magically, but such magic must make a DC for it to be successful DC 20+1/point of lost constitution. If the spell doesn't recover all lost constitution points, then thats too bad. Due to the energy put into this ability, it can only be used once per day.

Level combination: combine the levels of the Prestige class and the class of the monk to determine unarmed damage, base speed, unarmed attack bonus, and the AC bonus. This however doesn't apply to the learning of spells or any speacial abilities granted by the previous class.

Hopefully you can help me come up with a cool name and stuff. Hopefully this doesn't turn into another munchkin class.

in order to train as this class, you must find and train under a lvl 10 master (someone who has 10 levels in this Prestige class). Masters generally only take in 1 or 2 students at a time. You only need to gain 1 level under him. In the time it will take for you to complete 1 level under him, you will be able to train by your self elsewere, not requireing any more help from the Master.

Interesting, but to be more in line with series, there should be a list of bonus Ki feasts to take, depending on school, for example Tienshinan and Chiaozu learned diffrent techniques than Kamehameha from their master.

I like, Zack! I tried something like this called a Zed Disciple, but yours is better. I do recommend that the constitution damage from KaoKen can only be healed with natural healing, not magic, and that you create supplementary feats. For example, as is, the Kamehameha is extraordinarily nasty. Why not start it smaller and offer a feat to enhance it?

I don't know If i could do that. all you would do is give the techniques and stuff different names and visual affects, but it would essentially do the same thing. why don't you post an example.

maybe, but spell casters can do 15d6 at level 15, where as the monk would have to be level 20 to do 15d6, and only 3/day. And lowering it to 10d6 just doesn't make it seem potent enough. If it dealt less but you could use it more often maybe.

What do you mean by a supplementary feat? please give an example.

Hm... something about fixed damage and uses per day on some abilities strikes me as wrong... I saw a beautifully well-thought-out conversion for RIFTS once. What the author did was give them a quantity of chi that increased with level (like psionic power points, the optional spell points some people use, that sort of thing). For, say, a kamehame ha, it did damage based on the amount of chi you put into it, with your spending limits based on level. Range was also based on level, blast radius was based on how much you put into it. I'm not sure if you're familiar with RIFTS, if so you could take a look at it here for some inspiration:

I think a simple chi point system of some sort would go a long way towards capturing the feeling of the show, while being easily adjustable for game balance.

Personally I'm inclined to agree with LordMelkor there, if I were to ever finish my own conversion I'd make it so the class did nothing special besides grant bonus Chi/Technique feats. All the cool abilities could be made into big feat chains - then you can say, "Sure, you can reach the same level of power you see on the shows... you'll just have to be about level 80 to have all the necessary feats.."

Anyways, with regards to your class as is: What's special about Flash? Sure, it allows you to rearrange your combat actions a little, but what's so special about that? Make it cost a little chi (or some equivalent number of uses per day) and let them take their move as a free action. Why do you say "spell like ability (I think)"? If you mean you're not sure how it relates to the show, it's like everything else... supernatural. In this case, just moving faster than the eye can see.

Blindsight: range should probably improve with level somewhat. Later in the series, even the minor characters can sense more or less what's happening in a battle halfway around the world..

Here's a brainstorm if you're feeling bold: Give them d20 for hit dice, then make all the nifty abilities cost HP. Chi is life force, right? :D

I'm rambling now. Hope I gave you some ideas. :)
