[Dragon] d20 Modern Content?

shadowlight

First Post
Let me start this by saying that I've been a subscriber to Dragon since 3E was released, but I'm considering letting my subscription lapse (I've been finding the content less and less useful).

However, I picked up d20 Modern last week and absolutely LOVE it!! My only complaint is that I want more of the crunchy goodness that Dragon provides for D&D. For example:
- new feats
- advanced classes
- talent trees
- modern spells
- organization descriptions
- settings / campaign ideas
- counters
- GM advice
etc.

So my question for Paizo Publishing (or anyone else who may know) is:

Will Dragon start carrying d20 Modern content, and if not, will there be a periodical for d20 Modern?

Thanks!

Let me be the first to suggest otherwise. For many Dragon readers, they prefer the magazine stick to the D&D format, despite then-TSR's and Wizards' attempts to use this as a promotional vehicle of their new non-D&D games.

But now we have Polyhedron, which is a non-D&D but d20 magazine. Make this magazine more useful for those not playing D&D. Make this a support vehicle for d20 Modern and Star Wars.

You can still use Dragon to push new products, but Poly should do for d20 Modern and SW what Dragon do for D&D.

I definitely understand wanting to keep Dragon strictly D&D (the name alone is a pretty good arguement for that).

However, d20 Modern is not an RPG on the scale of Call of Cthulhu, Wheel of Time, or any of the Polyhedron d20 mini-games (the fact that this is the first major SRD release since D&D should say somthing about that). d20 Modern is much more broad-based and allows for many settings in multiple genres. I don't think a page or two every other month can address its possibilities.

I'm not trying to start a movement to change Dragon into something it's readers don't want. Rather, I'm expressing my interest in paying for an official magazine that's basically the Dragon of d20 Modern (a monthly Dragon-like Polyhedron would probably do the trick).

Star Wars

If you will recall, isn't Star Wars Insider supposed to be taking over for everything that was in Insider and Gamer? So game content will be found in Insider now. In which case, less SW would need to be put into Polyhedron/Dungeon and more room could be saved for d20 Modern and CoC

No, Insider is taking the short fiction and fluff pieces, Polyhedron is going to have the gaming stuff.. RPG oriented Gaming, not the damned card game:)

Be careful suggesting less SW be in Poly.. since there's been none so far.. only a promise. I think they could drop the mags, and mini mods from the dungeon side and go strictly D20 and still sell well.. then again I'm not one to run prewritten adventures.. I prefer story hooks and plot devices to build from if I use printed references.

We'll have a good deal of d20 Modern support in Polyhedron. In fact, the issue that comes out on 12/10 (subscribers should start getting it about 11/22) has a huge d20 Modern feature--GeneTech, a campaign setting that was originally to have been published in the core d20 Modern book. It's a really great techno thriller campaign world set in the modern era in which players take the roles of moreaus, who share genetic characteristics with animals, and franks, genetically evolved superior humans.

Lots of fun.

The issue also contains another preview of the upcoming Urban Arcana campaign setting, this time looking at special feats unique to that world.

I've got all sorts of plans for additional d20 Modern support, all of which will start appearing in Issue 98.

Thanks,

Erik

How much of this new material will be Open Game Content?

I ask because WotC has been really good about getting d20 Modern into the SRD so quickly, and becaus Paizo has promised that future sections of the magazine would contain some OGC in the future. Given that people have wanted that stuff to be the new material in Poly, and that everyone wants more d20 Modern, it just seems natural to have future d20 Modern Polyhedron articles to be OGC.

I was thinking about a D20 Modern magazone myself, maybe even getting a group of investors together and publish it out of my studio, I have access to Small Press co-ops etc. Thoush it is just a dream right now.

What exactly would go into such a magazine though? I was thinking it should have a new campaign setting every other month or so and articles about feat chains and using the multi-classing rules to build your characters. What else should be in a D20 Modern Magazine?
