Ah yes #306
First off, I am not a fan of the map/battle grid inserts so I set that aside for use as wrapping paper. Speaking of the insert, did you change the glue? Even with great care the first page of the urban traps article was torn. A well written article by the way, I was not impressed by the traps presented but the format was entertaining. The best article in this issue has to be Power Fantasy. While many DMs can handle flashy combat moves with rules they create on the fly it's nice to have printed rules to encourage players to try these stunts. Killing Cousins helps to flesh out the githzerai, a favored race of mine, so I give the article a nod of aproval, thank you Chris Thomasson. Silicon Sorcery was a bit of a surprise this time focusing on a minigame rather than the standard monster (love it) or character (don't care for it) import. Betraying Your Evil Nature is yet another article on a characters path down the dark road that I do not care for. I prefer not to place numeric values on "sins" or "good deeds." While on the subject of evil the Bound By Evil ariticle is torturous. How many new fiends do we need? I'm normally a fan of monster articles but this article presents creatures I could easily create with existing templates if I were inclined to drum up a thin plot such as the battle that created the presented fiends. Overly long and boring. On to comics, as usual I enjoyed them all except for What's New which I would not miss at all if it were removed from the pages of Dragon. Nothing personal against Mr. Foglio, he's a fine illustrator but the comic is just not entertaining. One subject worth mention is the announcement that the Living Greyhawk Journal will be moving to Dungeon. I've always read the journal even though I only use Greyhawk as a backdrop in extra-planar campaigns. Finally I would just like to extend my thanks to the Dragon staff for omitting Elminster's Guide to the Realms from this issue, sorry I just don't find it interesting to see where Harpers hide their spare weapons.
