Dragon's Mike May City Map Insert

I'm going to try out the Mike May City map this friday ngiht (if my gamers can get to my house through the 14 feet of snow we're getting right now :)

Here's my quick critique of the map so far:

Maps are NEVER big enough. Anycharacter that thinks that by being fast, that he's something special is wrong, wrong, wrong. Characters _typically only move around on the actual space of the gaming table. The size of this map, however HELPS! Combined with the identical one that appeared in DUNGEON, I may be able to do a pretty cool encounter.

I like how it's nice side of town on the top and poor side of town on the bottom :)

The grid could be darker, just for simplicity sake. Really, when you're gaming it's not about the beauty of the map, it's about getting the point across and being able to play on it.

I can see the thief and barbarian running over those rooftops already though!

I've noticed that since I upped my subscription to 5 years, that I'm on the priority list for getting my zine. I always seem to get it before everyone else I know.

I hope some of the Paizo folk drop in, because I'd love to know if any more thought had been given to putting out a CD-ROM addition to the Dragon Archive, with, for example, issues 251-300. I thought I saw someone mention that a Dungeon Archive was being talked about, and I'd really like to see the Dragon Archive added to while they're at it.

PrC's need "Starting Packages"

Just a thought. You know all those prestige classes that appear in Dragon? Wouldn't it be nice if there was a basic character STARTING PACKAGE in there like is done for the PHB character classes?

It would save the DM a lot of work. Just choose the easiest route to get that prestige class and write one up as a STARTING PACKAGE for a total of 7-8 total character levels. Wow, that would be very useful for DM's and wouldn't take up much space at all.

I'll happily second that motion, Col. H!

I liked the map. It's good to have, but it could have been much better.

First of all the makers of the map should try to align the building wiht the squares of the map. It should be obvious to everyone which squares you can and can't enter.

Secondly I would have prefered the interiot of the building to be detailed, rather than just seeing the roof. (Note that I haven't actually seen the back side of the map. It is quite possible that this has been done on the back side of the map. I didn't take a good look at it when my DM pulled it out.. If so, kudos to the designers!)

I just got #306 and read through most of it. A decent issue. The new demons and devils weren't very inspired, but the battleloths were unexpectedly cool (reminds me of the gingwatzim in #295's LGJ). The crossbow battleloth is awesome! Reminds me of one of those rubber suit monsters that fought Gamera the flying turtle... Jiger, I think. Looked like him, too. Spade head, shoots spears out of his mouth... the crossbow battleloth is practically the same thing, LOL. The new urban traps were good--I always wanted stats for the tipping chair trap! The poster was lame (what is Incursion? a video game?) but was redeemed by having another city street map on the other side. Loved the demon babe cover!

Best Dragon issue ever I think was #298, the all-drow special. That was super cool!
