Dragon/Dungeon cancellation: The industry reacts (New Monte Cook commentary)

I think Mr. Mearls hit it out of the park, there. The RPG staff just doesn't interact that much with the fans, and therefore the fans don't know them, and that to a decent extent explains the reaction (though not fully, many of us have bought this magazine for decades and call our wives and ask if it arrive yet so we have something to look forward to after work).

"RPG staff" does not mean "R&D".

R&D guys are hardcore game designers. What we discuss with them - or don't - is hardly the point with respect to this issue.

This was not, as Mike Mearls noted, a decision that came out of R&D. It's marketing and a business level decision. The R&D guys do their own thing.

Not to an outsider. To an outsider, someone that designs D&D or writes source books, or whatever, is RPG staff. But, his point wasn't about marketing people anyway.

His point was about WotC and their general lack of interaction with the RP crowd. A point I agree with, we just don't see much from them, even on their forums.

There is another one you do not have on your list yet. Mark Clover of Creative Mountain Games has posted his thoughts and comments.

I have been finding it interesting to read all the varied comments and the reactions to them. Thanks for listing them all.

And honestly when the WOTC people used to post here more often, a small but vocal group of posters did a pretty good job of kicking them in the junk at every given opportunity. Maybe if that werent the case we might have heard from someone might have been here a bit sooner to answer questions about this whole mess.

This needs its own thread, I think.

It's nice to be understood.

A lot of sane people, the staggering majority of fans, either stop reading or make a few cogent comments and then duck out. These people are probably mad or sad that the magazines are gone, but a dialog with them is pretty much impossible with the "rape" victims hanging around, waiting to shriek about the cruel injustices of a hard world.
