Dragon issue #329 contents

Congrats on the article! I just skimmed it last night, but it looks good. We get Beowulf's stats, but I imagine it'd be fun to stat him out at different stages--certainly he wasn't a 15th level fighter at the beginning of his epic tale. :)
Actually, since he recounts killing a sea serpent single-handedly while in a swimming race (with his bare hands, IIRC), he's probably fairly high level by the time he arrives at Herot Hall.

And WOW, that Demonicon article sounds insanely good. By any chance, is the Demonicon itself statted out?

It isn't. Despite being named "Demonomicon of Iggwilv" there is no mention of either the evil wizardess or her tome anywhere in the article. One might presume that the opening paragraph is written by her, since it could be viewed as in-game, but there's nothing to really support this.

Iggwilv's Demonomicon is statted out in the 1E adventure The Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth. Another spellbook of hers, the Nethertome, is in Dragon #225, in the article "Campaign Classics: Three Greyhawk Grimoires" (2E).

Wow, I had that decades ago. I can't even remember its ID number ... S4?

Hopefully if the series is popular enough, Iggwilv herself can be the subject of an article.

I think that's a great idea, but she'd have to be incredibly epic. She's the one who personally summoned and bound Graz'zt, mothered an evil demigod, and is now (last we heard) working with Tuerny, who has returned as some sort of advanced nalfeshnee. In her cameo appearance at the end of Return of the Eight, if you attack her, she makes a gesture and your character is tossed back, unconscious, with 1 hp left, and fails his next three saving throws automatically.

I think that there's some example out there of a spell effect cast by her that gives a clue to her caster level, but if so I can't recall offhand what it is.

Like Mike said, we had to bump the Perdido St. Station article from #330. Look for it sooner rather than later. It's one of my favorite books in recent memory.

As to the Demonomicon, it will most definitely be a recurring feature. I've set up two follow-ups to date. We'll be doing at least three of these things a year. Maybe more, if the demand is there.

Whacha need to do is have recurring articles on Oriental Adventures (using Kara-Tur as the setting, sure it's an FR setting but Kara-Tur is isolated enough to be its own campaign setting in some peopl's games and it has enough oriental variety, you have Japanese, Chinese, Phillipians, etc. all in one place) AND you need to have a recurring Psionic and Epic article.

Then your magazine will be epic!

Seconded! :D

From a personal preference perspective, anyway. Sadly, I recognize that these probably aren't good ideas from a business perspective.

But at least a little bit, once in a while...? :(

I am so glad I just subscribed up for both Dragon and Dungeon!!!!! I am fairly new to this game, compared to so many of you, but the article on Pazuzu really sound very interesting even though I have notging to compare it to!!
Layer 503??? What are they talking about...

I'd really like to see Oriental articles like this too.

Cheers

In the standard D&D cosmology, the Outer Planes (for the most part) have layers. Each layer is infinite, and part of the plane in question. For example, the Seven Mounting Heavens of Celestia has seven layers in it. Likewise, the Nine Hells of Baator has nine layers. The Abyss, in this case, has an infinite number of infinite layers (though older editions said it topped out at 666).

The concept of "layers" can be hard to imagine from a physical standpoint. The thing to remember is that this is metaphysics. A second layer of a plane doesn't have the first pne physically above it. Rather, the second layer has it's own sky, ground, etc.
