DRAGON Mag Exotic Weapons (Was: Elven Thinblade?)

People seem to think it's worth it for bastard sword or dwarven waraxe over the non-exotic counterparts of those. *shrug*. Personal taste... also, if you're a fighter, you might as well, not like you're going to run out of feats or anything :)

That's because the exotic weapon feat for those allows them to be wielded in one hand, meaning you can still use a shield, but switch to two-handed style if you need more damage.

With the Thinblade, all the EWP feat gives you is +1 average damage, since you don't have the option to switch to two-handed style.

Now, while we're at it could someone give me the stats for a great scimitar? :D

Sure, how about the same as a Scimitar, but two-handed, exotic weapon, deals 2d6 base damage with an 18-20 threat range. It would probably be a fairly popular weapon with power gamers though, given the amount of damage you could output with criticals (even more than a greatsword).

Well, it does give a finessable 1d8 damage weapon, which is something that is difficult to get any other way. Also, it may be +1 average damage, but it is +4 maximum damage (on a crit) and that's going to influence people.

As I said: I'd choose that weapon for style. But I'd not use a feat to have that little extra damage on average.

Yeah, because we all know those fighters were going to wield a bastard sword instead of a two handed sword :P

1.) Using a bastard sword in one hand is a +1 damage bonus over using a longsword in one hand.

2.) You can wield any weapon of your size or one size larger in two hands and receive the benefit of 1.5x strength bonus. So using a bastard sword in two hands gives a +1 damage bonus over using a longsword in two hands.

So you see.. the thinblade is exactly the same. If you wanted to, you could wield it in two hands and gain 1.5x strenth bonus, and it is only +1 damage over its non-exotic counterpart.

(btw, rules are on pg 97 of PHB under one-handed and two-handed)

uh, Falchion?

Actually, IIRC, the great scimitar had different stats than a falchion.

EDIT: Yup. Sure enough.

Falchion (martial)
Damage: 2d4
Crit: 18-20 / x2
Weight: 16 lb.
Damage Type: Slashing

Great Scimitar (exotic)
Damage: 2d6
Crit: 18-20 / x2
Weight: 16 lb.
Damage Type: Slashing
