DRAGON Mag Exotic Weapons (Was: Elven Thinblade?)

Actually, IIRC, the great scimitar had different stats than a falchion.

EDIT: Yup. Sure enough.

Falchion (martial)
Damage: 2d4
Crit: 18-20 / x2
Weight: 16 lb.
Damage Type: Slashing

Great Scimitar (exotic)
Damage: 2d6
Crit: 18-20 / x2
Weight: 16 lb.
Damage Type: Slashing

Thanks, that's the one I needed! Does anyone happen to recall the cost?

2In lots of movies you see guys with rapiers put their offhand over their main hand and plunge it into their foe's stomach, or reverse the grip and plunge it down into someone...

This is also, almost always, a killing blow. Even in movies, this kind of attack, which is more Strength based than anything else, is only used when the opponent really opens up his defenses. I could see such an attack as being very appropriate for a coup de gras, but not as a style of fighting available to just anyone.

I sure don't. However, a greatsword is 50 gp, and a falchion is 75 gp, so I'd probably price the Great Scimitar at 100 gp.

Seems reasonable, but the Great Scimitar was priced at 50 gp.

Does it strike anyone else as incredibly stupid that the Great Scimitar does more damage than the Falchion, but costs less and weighs the same?

The weight doesn't bother me at all, but the price only bugs me a little bit. You have to spend a feat on it after all, but logic kinda dictates that it should be more expensive.

My point was intended as an ironic one really... along the lines of "there is already a large weapon with the scimitars threat range and it is called the Falchion".

Basically I would expect an exotic version of the scimitar to do damage one die size larger and maintain the other aspects like good threat range... and the Falchion pretty much does that. I guess it could be argued that the Dragon's "Great Scimitar" is a greatsword with an increased threat range, but it doesn't sit well with me personally (although I can imagine how other people would love it).

Cheers
