Dragon Magazine Archive

I bought mine through Amazon in early '99 for (IIRC) ~$25.00. About the only place you'll find available copies today is on eBay or a similar auction site. For just the discs (no box or case) you can probably expect to pay somewhere around $75.00 and up.

I think the original price was either $39.99 or $49.99. However, it didn't sell well initially and places like Amazon.com had them on sale for $25, which is when I bought mine.

However, for whatever reason (I guess PDFs caught on), it started to become an in demand product. I sold mine for $75, IIRC (enough to buy the complete Buck Rogers on DVD)

I rememeber paying about $60 when it came out. Worth every penny!

It comes with a search feature that can be installed, but it never worked very well.

I just copied all the PDFs to hard disk, and to DVD (about 2.5 GB).

Yep. Lookin' like I'm gonna have to lay out big cash. It is probably too optimistic to think I can find it collecting dust in the back room at some old book store. I can't find any bookstores or game store on-line who are offering it for under $125. Hardly anyone has it any more...very few used copies.

More copies seem to be available than the Forgotten Realms Interactive Atlas. 6 copies of the Dragon archive are on eBay right now, with 2 copies when you look for completed auctions (going for between $90 & $100). The Atlas, OTOH, has no completed auctions, 1 current auction and a single store with it (asking $249 for it).

The D&D Core Rules CD-ROM is more available with it going for about $50. However, that's about $100 if you get both the original and the expansion.

Darn, I wish they'd reissue it.

Does WOC have any compliations on cds that are current?

250 magazines.

That's pretty hard to beat.

They got into some trouble with the archive, from what I gather, regarding the paying of writers and artists (I'm sure someone with the straight story will be along soon). So a reissue or update doesn't seem likely.

I don't think anyone who has the straight story (or at least the bulk of the straight story) is talking about it. All I've ever read are comments based on speculation or "I heard that..."

There definitely were some issues with rights and the production. Whether these were resolved is a matter of speculation and supposition.

Well, I don't know the straight story, but beyond the trouble with the writers of the original articles, apparently they ran into trobule with Kenzer over the reprint of the Knights of the Dinner Table. Which was apparently settled by Kenzer getting the rights to use D&D on their Kalamar setting, and the rights to use D&D stuff for Hackmaster.

So yeah, unlikely it will get re-issused, as it was a big legal headache for them.

Goodness I regret selling mine. I've been getting into 13 again and I'm having to go through EBay for single issues of Dragon magazine, which gets very expensive. I la la loved Dragon magazine in the range of #50 - #100. Good stuff.
