The Dragon Archive is indespensible IMO. They show up on eBay regularly for $50-100, and I think $45-50 was the original price.

Well, I don't know the straight story, but beyond the trouble with the writers of the original articles, apparently they ran into trobule with Kenzer over the reprint of the Knights of the Dinner Table. Which was apparently settled by Kenzer getting the rights to use D&D on their Kalamar setting, and the rights to use D&D stuff for Hackmaster.

So yeah, unlikely it will get re-issused, as it was a big legal headache for them.

They can simply remove the comics from the scans - it seems to me that is hardly a make/break issue for reprinting or re-issuing.

The problems is it wasn't only that one comic that they did not have the rights to reprint. Many things they only had first right to print and a limited number of future reprints for compilation purposes.

This is where WotC either now buys everything or doesn't use it. If WotC owns it they can do what they want, but still many of the things in the past they could not as they do not own those things.

I bet they would never be allowed to print Wormy again or any of that mans art either.

So they would hardly be able to make and sel the archive any more, and the settlement from back then may have stated that they must C&D future sales of the product.

The Dragon Archive and the FR Atlas are two of the best digital gaming products every made IMO.

I seem to recall my copy being about 70 bux... "You'll be the bestest mom evarrrr if you buy it for me!!!"

It was awesome in a box. I've actually been looking through it again lately with the premeir of the enw edition.

Too bad I stepped on one of the CDs.

I picked one up on ebay a few years ago for $50ish. I love it, but the obviously old UI and graphics are... well, old.

Great buy though. Were I you, I'd save a search on ebay and keep an eye out for a reasonably priced set.

As a bit of trivia, several inserts were missing from several of the magazines in the Dragon CD-ROM Archive. You can find them (along with what seems to be a patch for issue #117) at the bottom of this page: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/ex20020218a (apparently, this patch can be downloaded when you tell the CD-ROM Archive program to check for upgrades)
