Dragon question....

I have a question concerning dragons. But first some lead up to the question.

Dragons in 2E IIRC, did not necessarily follow the conventional alignment breakdown with regards to colour. Red Dragons were not ALWAYS evil... there was sometimes that rare one that went against the grain. The same could be said for the other colours as well... both metallic and Chromatic. 3E got rid of that with the ALWAYS Good or Evil depending on colour. Because as we all know, all evil races can never have a "good" aberration...*cough* Drow *cough*....

My question then is this. Assume for a minute that some freak aberration occurred and a Red Dragon hatched that was of Good alignment. That good red dragon then somehow managed to mate with a metallic dragon. What do you think the offspring would look like?

It would not need good alignment to mate with a good dragon.

If the Good dragon has the cold subtype, the egg will never form, the ofspring dead when the life force of fire met the life force of cold. Otherwise It may have one breath weapon similar to the Purple/ orange / yellow dragons reprinted in the Dragon compendium.

I like Lightning meets fire = Shapable plasma beath. Cone, Line or single target ray :] .
Fire meets acid = Corrosive napalm.

3e got rid of nothing of the sort. It quite specifically says in the MM that even 'always' alignments have (very rare) exceptions.

glass.

If you take the "Dragons are forces of nature" view, then nothing may happen at all -- they may not be mixable.

If you take the more biological view, I could see anywhere from a red-gold mix, to their scales may be red OR gold, and their breath weapons, SR, spells, etc. may be changed. Imagine a super-dragon species with all the best traits of Red AND Gold... (of course, Gold's already better overall, anyway...)

Technically true, however, IMO I would think that a good dragon would not tolerate the presence of an evil one long enough to allow a mating.

Without putting too fine a point of it, we're talking about an evil dragon. Evil people have never worried that much about consent.

Granted... however, I think that a dragon would be able and quite willing to defend herself against the unwanted amorous advances of an evil dragon.
