Dragonbane general thread

It had premiere in my country this month. I could not afford boxed set, but I did bought myself the core rulebook, I am very intrigued by this game. Maybe will have an opportunnity to try it sooner than later, but if not, next year they'll publish book with adventures.

If I'm reading the rules right, in the wilderness if the bushcraft roll is failed, a character can't effectively sleep. This seems a bit harsh. On the other hand, if the roll succeeds, then the character gains the benefits of a shift rest (unless interrupted) It seems that this precludes the possibility of sleeping, but not gaining a shift rest. Is this correct?

That is correct. It is harsh. But a sleeping fur grants a boon. Having a tent is very good. Equipment while journeying is crucial.

I like those rules. But one of my players kept objecting to them. The others found them more 'realistic' than current D&D and didn't mind keeping track of resources.

But is it not possible to sleep and not get a shift rest? I liked the idea of only getting a shift rest in a safe place, but maybe that would be too harsh even for Dragonbane.

I'm not sure I understand.

The way I see it is that if you fail the Bushcraft roll, you spend the night in a bad spot, with a root or a rock on your lower back. You slept fitfully; it wasn't restful. Your body is wracked. You do not gain the benefits of a Shift Rest.

Yes, I thought that, like in other games, you could sleep in "uncomfortable" conditions without getting the benefits of a full rest (which is basically a full recovery) but also without accruing the penalties for lack of sleep.

Despite the cartoonish illustrations, DB is grittier than the games you mention.
