D&D 5E Dragonborn Bard anyone?

Levy1995

Villager
A group of friends and I are going to start a new campaign, where the DM still hasn't told us about the story and asked us not to tell each other about the snippets of information we are getting. He gave each of us either a specific class or specific race- only he told me that I need to make a Dragonborn Bard (both class and race, I'm getting MC vibes).
Already made a backstory- wise cracking only-dragonborn-in-human-village thrown out when orphaned and so on.
The thing is- dragonborn bard is kind counterintuitive... Any idea about skills, maybe weapons, even dice build! What should be my second highest stat?
I'm trying to make the most of it, had a few ideas but I'd be happy to hear more.

My first problem is the DM telling me what class and race to play. That is the only thing the player is supposed to be free to choose. I get that some games limit classes and races and groups might choose to play an all X game and what not, but secretly telling each player to play this and that feels like a problem from the start.

As for you actual questions, I think fire is the best to be resistant to, so maybe a brass dragonborn. I picture dragonborn as having different mouth structure and talk common differently, if you seen the Matt Colville video. Somehow I'm picturing Scuttle from the Little Mermaid movie and just telling people that in my language it is beautiful.

You can also play upon the part of them growing faster than humans and starting at age 15 instead of 20. He could be a bit naive, but full of himself and his future of becoming famous enough to play at Carnegie Hall.

Wait before choosing your subclass. You do not know the other classes and what to expect. The party might need more fighting or healing or scouting that you do not see right now. I would still favor CHA and DEX to start though. Spread skill around on what typical bards do since the DM likely is giving people a spread and the fighter should be doing fighter things and cleric doing cleric things- so the bard do bard things and hope it goes well.
