Dragonborn; Favorite racee?

PbP 4e games are cropping up all over the internet, and from what I have seen Dragonborn are THE prime choice of race for players, power gamers and roleplayers alike. So it seems to me that in this edition of dnd Dragonborn are the race of choice, just like humans were the race of choice for 3e.

Ofcourse it can be argued that its too early to tell, and that people will get this out of there system and all that but tthats how the trend seems to be going.

They do get some cool stuff, more healing from surges, +1 to damage rolls, fantastic ability scores (very paladin friendly) breath weapon (that albeit is rather weak), etc. I hear they can go onto get racial feats that allow them to fly at higher tiers.

Thoughts on this? Will they stay as a favorite race, or will they be superseded? (Eladrin appear to be another faveorite IMO)

EDIT; TO change class to race. Thanks Wolf!

They will stay as a favorite. People like anthropomorphic dragons. ENWorld complainers aside, dragon-ish characters were hugely popular in 3e, and will probably continue to be popular in 4e.*

*for the record, I base this on the many WOTC products which provide ways to play dragon-ish characters, and the fact that many of my friends bought said products.

I think you mean race not class, but dragonborn are quite nice, equally as nice as dwarves or humans in the defender roles I think, but yeah they're new and shiney they're going to get a lot of play and attention.

fantastic ability scores

I think the d-born is the only race that has +2 to 2 abilities that are main attack, or co-main attack abilities.

anyone wanting to do a spellsword will likely look to d-born ftr/warlock multi.

a party with 2 or 3 d-borns just doesnt need a wizard.

Dang! Thanks for the heads up Wolf! You have been duly credited in my edit.

Anyhow, I am also warming up to the suckers, even though I thought they were uber cheese. And I am not fond of dragons or reptiles at all!

Also, can anyone confirm, do they get a racial feat that gives 'em wings?

Well, 3 of my 5 players have said their going to play dragonborn, so that seems to bear this out (along with an eladrin and a minotaur, but that's a completely different discussion). Only one of those players is playing a class that has Str and Cha as important stats (warlord), and the other two have dumped their second bonus stat (a fighter and a warlock).

All my players said the same thin on seeing the phb this weekend: The Dragonborn are beyond lame.

It's too bad because the stats/abilities are indeed attractive for some classes. Saying you won't need a wizard is extraordinarily arguable though. Such an argument would, however, be off topic, pointless and tedious so I'll skip it.

But I do not claim that I and everyone I know are average statistically representative gamers. That's why I like them.

Keep in mind the dragonborn breath is usable once an encounter only, and apparently does not scale as a wizards powers (or at least, not as well). At low levels, yeah the 3 Dborn might remove theneed for a wizard, but at higher levels not at all.

Hmm, though if those 3 Dborn were all warlocks...*scratches chin*
