Dragonborn; Favorite racee?

The dragonborn are the new flashy toy. Everyone wants to give it a spin.Thankfully most people are not reacting to them like drjones players or they would be D.O.A.

I have ranked how good I think the races are for for each class:
Cleric Elf(wis), Dwarf(wis), Dragonborn(str), Human(wis)
Fighter Dragonborn, Dwarf, Human
Paladin Halfling(cha)*, Dragonborn(str)2. (cha based
Ranger Elf(dex), Eladrin(dex)
Rogue Halfling, Elf
Warlock Thiefling, Half-elf, Human, Dwarf (in no particular order actually...)
Warlord Dragonborn(str/cha), Human(str)
Wizard Thiefling, Eladrin

On some classes like cleric, paladin and warlock you can actually choose what you want for a main stat. Cleric: wis OR str, paladin: cha OR str, warlock: cha or con. You get quite different characters depending on what path you choose. The advantages of playing a cha based paladin is that you can concentrate on cha and wis instead of str, cha and wis which is the other choice... The downside to it is that cha and wis are on the same save, so you probably shouldn't put that many points into wis...

I can't decide what kind of warlock would be any good, so I can't really decide what race is best suited to play it either... ;)

Please comment or come up with your own ranking :)

*Halfling in 1st place due to their awesome tanking racial feats, you can actually dump stat str

All my players said the same thin on seeing the phb this weekend: The Dragonborn are beyond lame.

It's too bad because the stats/abilities are indeed attractive for some classes. Saying you won't need a wizard is extraordinarily arguable though. Such an argument would, however, be off topic, pointless and tedious so I'll skip it.

But I do not claim that I and everyone I know are average statistically representative gamers. That's why I like them.

Same. My group has been overwhelmingly underwhelmed by most of the racial info, especially regarding Dragonborn and Tieflings.

Keep in mind the dragonborn breath is usable once an encounter only, and apparently does not scale as a wizards powers (or at least, not as well). At low levels, yeah the 3 Dborn might remove theneed for a wizard, but at higher levels not at all.

Hmm, though if those 3 Dborn were all warlocks...*scratches chin*
Dragonborn infernal pact warlock could be pretty good. Your Str bonus goes to waste, but the breath weapon and Healing Surge bonus both key off of Con, which is the main stat for infernal pact.

I agree with most of your analysis, but I do think you should consider putting the Half-elf in your list for Paladin. Their scores are both beneficial, and, with the paladin's need for a decent Wisdom, they are well situated to take one of the cleric's at-wills 1/encounter. Of those, things like Sacred Flame and Priest's Shield are well suited to help the Paladin "defend" both themselves and others, and, as at-wills, they are already designed to improve with levels.

Dragonborn make solid Paladins and Warlords because they get to use both of their stat bonuses to full effect.

Dragonborn make less optimal Clerics, Fighters, Rangers, and Warlocks because they only get maximum utility out of one of their stat bumps (or decent utility out of complimentary secondary stats with the Cleric STR+CHA).

Dragonborn make poor Rogues because both their stat-bumps work on competing secondary stats.

Dragonborn make poor Wizards as none of their stat bumps are even in a secondary Wizard attribute (Wis, Con, Dex).

Honestly, a Human out-classes the Dragonborn in every class but the Paladin and Warlord just due the human's better Defense, extra At-Will, and extra Feat.

Dragonborn are excellent at STR+CHA mix classes and decent at STR/CHA classes. That's a good selection of classes, but in 75% of the classes there is a clearly superior competitor from another race.
