DragonCon - Who's going?

Vacation/con plans

I'm going with my sig. other so it's sort of a general Atlanta vacation mixed with con attendance. He's a big sci-fi geek but not a gamer so we'll be in and out of the con, seeing other Atlanta sights too.

He's a fan of Thunderbirds so the puppetry museum may well make it onto the itenerary--thanks, Pielorinho.

I'm thinking about playing in the Call of Cthulhu/Dukes of Hazzard crossover. Anyone else?

And by the way, if you have trouble finding decent prices for a place to stay, we got a great deal through www.hotels.com; we're paying less than 2/3 list price for our room even on a holiday weekend (it's not a con hotel but they may be available too).

Sounds like there will be no shortage of fun stuff going on.
See you all,
vox

Well, I'm going with my brother Luke; I'll see if he wants to play :D.

My SO will also be there -- this trip is her birthday present to me. She'll likely be amusing herself in nongaming ways, mostly -- attending Buffy threads, peoplewatching, and visiting a friend who mayormaynot be living in Athens around this time.

An ENworld get-together could be fun -- I'm in!

Ok - is there anyone here that has been to DragonCon before? I've not (shameful though it is) and I would guess we'd need somone there that knows the lay of the land to help us out.... :)

Ok, if everyone that is going will post a message saying whether or not they would be interested in/have time to take part in a gathering, we can get the ball rolling...

I've been before, but only once, and I'm not very familiar with Atlanta at all. One of the hotels in which the Con takes place has a food court, however, and if we met there during off-hours (say, around 9 at night or something), it might be easy to find one another.

Of course, someone else may have a much better idea.

The parade of humanity (and then some)

The Hyatt is one of the con hotels. They have a lobby area with overstuffed couches right between the check-in desk and the hotel bar. It is a primo place for people watching and finding folks. The dealer's room, film rooms, escalators and art display rooms are usually nearby (acutally, they can easily move stuff around [other than escalators] but it's a crossroads of sorts so there is always some stuff going on around it).

If I recall, the food court thing used to have wonky hours--it was mostly open for lunch and didn't stay open past 7 or 8? I think.

It looks like there will be some good gaming but if you haven't been before, it's different from the way people describe GenCon. Gaming is not as much of a focus (although, it is still significant) and there is more wonky/freaky stuff going on. Although, never having been to GenCon, my impression may be off.

My buddy and I have been planning to go, but as the time appraoches it looks like we will both be too B-R-O-K-E to afford the trip (we were just going to drive down for Sat) and the con ($30!!! for a one-day pass!!!). I've gone to the Heroes Con in Charlotte for the last 13 years or so (mostly a comic con with a little bit of gaming), but this year I had to go to a good friend's wedding in Maryland. I'm having con fever, so I thought that I would head to Atlanta at the end of the month. I haven't been to DragonCon since 1987 (it was still separated from the Atlanta Fantasy Fair back then). If I find out I can go closer to the time of the con, I'll post in the thread. Would be nice to meet up with some fellow ENWorlders :)

Everybody have fun regardless,

Jay

I'll be there.

In fact, stop on by the Sword & Sorcery Studios booth - I may even have a sign-up sheet for daily pick-up games, doing some playtesting for a small adventure I put together for the Hornsaw book. ;)
