Not anymore--dislike of the post-War of Souls changes and a growing awareness of how far I am from the setting's underlying philosophy have pretty well convinced me that Dragonlance and I are no longer compatible.

I've played in a couple of Dragonlance campaigns, but it never really grabbed me the same way Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms or Eberron has. Then again, I never read the books so that might have had something to do with it...

Dragonlance was what drew me into D&D in the first place and I love the world (up to the Twins trilogy). The Chaos War and War of Souls era leaves me cold but otherwise its good. The new books by SovStone are excellent IMO.

I like some of the new DL stuff I have seen. I probably won't play in it though unless someone in our group really wants to DM it. I like the setting as a place for the stories, but I just don't get the desire to play in it. Not sure why that is.

I read one of the novels early on, at a friend's insistence. I found it trite and boring, but no more so than a lot of other genre novels that I have read. Due to that, I have had no real interest in checking out the setting.

There's no poll option which represents my feelings - I first got into D&D in a serious way because of the novels, but these days the setting just isn't what I want to be playing at all. Partly that's because of the whole Chaos War/Age of Mortals thing, partly it's because I'm tired of the same old flavour of high fantasy (though Dragonlance deviated from the Tolkienesque model quite a bit, it's still part of the same niche as Forgotten Realms and Greyhawk, if you see what I mean), and partly it's because I've just grown into different tastes.

I admire what Margaret Weis and co. are doing, but I can't say I'd ever play in the setting unless a really good DM came to me with a really interesting idea - then again, that goes for any setting I'm not already enthused about.

That philosophy being "we can keep on milking this cow forever, no matter how old Bessie may get?"

I find it has very few novel ideas -- the moons and the Towers of Wizardry are pretty much it -- and otherwise is a very faithful Gygaxian riff on LotR, as it was intended to be. I read the first six novels when they first came out, was underwhelmed but not in hate. But I have no particular desire to play in the setting, especially as the only really interesting bits have been scooped up and brought off to settings I find more interesting. The original Praemal campaign, that paved the way for Ptolus, for instance, has an invisible moon of magic. I'd much rather play of Praemal/Ptolus from what I've seen than Krynn.

Leaving aside the enormous schizophrenic changes to the setting over the years -- "Like an element of the setting? WELL, OUT IT GOES, SO NOW YOU'LL LOVE THE SETTING!" -- it just feels too restrictive unless you want to do what amounts to Dragonlance fanfic, IMO. I can tell my own stories in Greyhawk, Praemal, Freeport, the Iron Kingdoms, Eberron or even Faerun. I can play variations on a theme in Krynn. No thanks.

I'm pretty fond of it. But then, I'm biased.

I may write for the setting, but then I also run a weekly game set in it (playtesting, naturally), which I was alarmed to hear many designers don't actually do.

Cheers,
Cam

I'm quite fond of Dragonlance as well. Like Cam, I'm a bit biased. I've written for the setting, both in comics and games, and I run the Dragonlance Nexus (see link in my sig).

Also like Cam, my home game is a Dragonlance game. Two of my players are big Dragonlance fans, and the other just isn't familiar with the setting (though I'm working on it! ;) ).

For me, it's a world that I can do work for, but I can also play in, which makes it doubly fun. :)
