Dragonlance versus Forgotten Realms

Really? Good for them, then. That was one of the things that always bugged me about the book in the past.

Doesn't mention FR, and the cover has no FR logo, and isn't in the FR style (but then again isn't in any kind of established WotC style...)

That being said I din't see the 2e version, and so just assumed that if it doesn't say FR, then it isn't FR, but I think that's a reasonable assumption.

Dude, Mucknuggle, i'll give you a run for the iconic fanboy of DL anyday =)

That said, I have both the DLCS and the Age of Mortals, and as a hardcore fan with the entire library of Dragonlance products, i have to say that these are among the best game products i've seen produced for the setting in its entire 20 years. Sov Press is writing by fans who know exactly what the setting has been lacking and what fans want to see for continuity. Between these two sourcebooks, i can run a fully fleshed out DL campaign that (for once) doesnt need to rely on storylines from novels. plus, the new era in the game world is wide open for DMs to play in. All in all, its a great time to be a dragonlance fan =)

i'd have to say that for some of us, there is such a thing as too much support.

eight books are coming out for the setting within the next year? ouch. i can't afford that.

my dream setting would be one hardback book to kick it off, and perhaps one moderately-priced softcover 96-128 page supplement every quarter or so.

however, i realize that in order to make money, they'll probably need to publish a bit more than that, so i doubt anything like that will happen. but my wallet wouldn't be able to keep up with the rate of production DL looks to be getting.

Good point, there. The only settings I collect are Forgotten Realms and Ravenloft, and I haven't been successful in completely keeping up with either (Missing Savage Species, Unapproachable East, City of the Spider Queen and the FR DM's Screen for Forgotten Realms, and Gazetteer 3, Van Richten's Guide to the Walking Dead, Ravenloft Dungeon Master's Guide and Denizens of Darkness for Ravenloft).

We're impressed enough with the new DLCG that my wife will be running a campaign (her first!) with it. We just need the Age of Mortals book, once it's out. It sounds like it'll be pretty core to any campaign set then.

The City of the Spider Queen was published in 2002.

I meant that there are/have been only 3 Forgotten Realms products in 2003: Races of Faerun, Unapproachable East, and Underdark.

Draconomicon appears not to be a FR product, though in fact this could be deceptive. Monsters of Faerun is also technically not part of the FR line, it doesn't have the FR logo on it. I'm not familiar with the 2e Draconomicon but it definiately had the FR logo on the cover.

Looking ahead to next year, there is only one confirmed FR product we know of--the Player's Guide. This work appears to largely be a 3.5 update, however.

There have been rumors (which were reported here) of a Waterdeep/Undermountain hardcover coming out in 2004.

I also forgot to mention that all the DL stuff is 3.5, so you won't have to worry about converting anything like you do with your FR products.

FYI, Age of Mortals should be coming out around the first of September. Some lucky people already have the DLCS and AoM because of Gen CON or Origins or ordering from www.margaretweis.com. Lucky people...

Another plus to DL is that all the products have AMAZING cover art. They don't look like game products, more like novel covers. You can check em out at www.dragonlance.com .

yeah, i got my AoM via friends at GenCon. Got an elmore sketch, a jason engles sketch, a sketch from Stan!, and in my coup de grace, a caricature of me drawn by none other than tracy hickman =)
And i wasnt even at the con =)

oh, and it was signed by all of the designers.
Beyond that, its just a damned good dragonlance book.

On the other hand, with your FR Stuff you can just keep playing without the need for 3.5...

Too bad, I´ve really would have liked a 3.0 Dragonlance.
